HOLY FREAKING INTENSITY!!!!

This is the second time I’ve read this book, and I’ve gotta say I enjoyed it more the second time around. I think it overwhelmed me a bit the first time, but coming back and revisiting it, I got completely sucked into Gideon and Eva’s story, and absolutely loved it.

Everything about their relationship is so incredibly intense – the good, the bad, the sex, the drama. It’s full on, all the way!

On the outside Gideon is a uber-hot, smugly arrogant, hugely successful businessman who knows exactly what he wants, and takes it. Eva is a young, independent go-getter starting her new life in New York with the assistance of her best friend Cary (everybody needs somebody who is there for them like Cary is there for Eva!). Behind the façade though, Gideon and Eva are both deliciously fucked up, and concealing some incredibly damaging experiences from their past which continue to haunt them.

But together they are absolute dynamite!!! So intensely passionate about each other and crazily in love – to the point of obsession – that they are willing to do anything to be together. Eva calls their relationship a “precious, complicated, maddening, necessary connection” and I love how fiery they both are. They are also incredibly honest with each other, and it’s refreshing to read about a couple who talk so openly about what they are feeling – good and bad (although Gideon is still hiding some dangerous demons in his closet, which are hinted at and will no doubt be revealed in later books). They acknowledge that they both have serious issues, and even when they fight, they are so entirely committed to being together, that they fight hard to get it back. And who can fight a passion like that?

“I’m losing my mind without you.” His lips were gliding down my neck, his tongue stroking over my racing pulse. He sucked on my skin and pleasure radiated through me. “I can’t think. I can’t work or sleep. My body aches for you. I can make you want me again. Let me try.”

…and then…

“I’ve always seen you, angel. From the moment you found me, I’ve seen nothing but you.”

SWOOOOON!!!

This is the perfect book to read if you want to be completely swept away in an all-encompassing love story between two very damaged souls who share an incredible, intensely passionate connection.

Originally read – April 2012 – 4 stars
