Blurb

Beautiful, penniless American girl meets handsome, wealthy Scotsman.
Sounds like the beginning of a fairy-tale romance?
It’s not.

This story begins with a contract.
And an exchange of money.
A lot of money.

An angel perches nervously on one shoulder.
A devil lounges smugly on my other.
And even that dark little bastard is leery of what I’m doing.

Maxwell Hutcheson wants the girlfriend experience.
All of it.
And I’m going to give it to him.

I’m not supposed to enjoy being his whore.
I’m also not supposed to fall in love with him.
But I do. Both.

When our contract expires, I will walk away.
Because I have to.
But he’ll always have a piece of me.

I’ll mask my sorrow with a smile.
I’ll hide my love with indifference
… all while it’s killing me softly.

A fairy-tale romance.
It isn’t mine to have.
And this man I’ve come to love so dearly isn’t my happily ever after.

About Eighty-One Nights:
While the characters from Eighty-One Nights are entirely new, their storyline is a combination of fresh material and carefully selected themes, scenes, and settings from The Beauty Series, The Sin Trilogy, Dear Agony, and Indulge. This is intentional. I chose some of my favorite elements from previous releases and interjected them into Hutch and Lou’s story. Let’s call it a “story fusion” between our old favorites and new material. This work was briefly released under a pen name and was titled The Girlfriend Experience.

Review

4.5 “One look is all it took” stars!

Caitriona Louden is barely making ends meet. Her income definitely doesn’t cover all her expenses and at some point she’ll need to get another job. When her roommate tells her about a new opportunity as a companionship-only escort at Inamorata, she seriously considers it.

Maxwell Hutchenson is in a unique situation but he still has needs. He wants the girlfriend experience for three months and is willing to pay a lot for it. When Lou is chosen as his companion, it’s an opportunity she cannot refuse. What happens when giving Max the girlfriend experience ends up giving her the boyfriend experience in return?

“One look is all it took. I saw you and I wanted you.”

This unconventional romance is the perfect start to the Beautiful Illusions Duet. It’s romantic and captivating with a unique storyline and endearing characters who I desperately want to find their HEA.

Lou had a hard upbringing. Abandoned by her father and raised by her alcoholic mother, her heart was hardened and as a little girl, she grew up too fast. When Hutch enters her life, everything changes. Now she is seen as something special and I loved watching her open her heart to the possibility of love.

Hutch is sweet, honest, considerate, and genuine. He is so much more than meets the eye and has so much on his shoulders. I loved that Lou gives him the things that have been missing from his life for so long – companionship, attention, and love.

Lou and Hutch bring a good amount of steam to the story. The chemistry between these two is well written and the sexual tension is delicious. I felt every heated look and touch. It’s seductive, sensual, and swoony, and the emotion is real and believable.

“You think this thing between us is fire?”
Fire isn’t a good enough word to describe what’s happening between us. Inferno is a better word. But I don’t reply to his question; it would be stupid to throw fuel on flames already blazing out of control.

However, there is so much more than just heat between these two. Their connection is undeniable and even though Lou doesn’t want to fall for Hutch, it’s inevitable, and they are wonderful together. Comfortable and playful, they show us a lot of sweet and swoony moments. They bring out the best in each other, and no matter that their relationship started in an unusual way, it is functional and easy. It grows into something beautiful and I loved everything about the emotions it made me feel. Watching them slowly open up to each other, breaking down their walls, and accepting the other unconditionally warmed my heart.

“Love has a way of not caring about complicated circumstances.”

Wrapped up in how much I liked Lou and Hitch together, I was in denial that something bad would happen. Though the story is not overly angsty, there is a little bit of drama. I expected a cliffy but I didn’t expect to feel quite so much sadness. I am eager to get my hands on book two because I can’t wait to see how this duet plays out.
