4 Tight and twisty stars

Alessandra Torre has done it again! Queen of the mindfuck, she has given us a complex and intriguing story featuring fantastic characters, a hot, steamy and beautifully swoony romance and a dark and disturbing mystery. I knew nothing about this book when I started it, and I suggest you don’t go hunting for details before making a start. Just dive in and enjoy it as it all unfolds.

32 year old Riley lives a simple life in a small country town. Down to earth, funny and independent she is surrounded by good friends and a loving family, and is comfortable with herself. It’s been a while since she’s gotten any action, but generally life is good.

On a bachelorette weekend away with her girlfriends in the Bahamas she meets Brett, and after some brief flirting and banter, they proceed to rock each other’s worlds. She leaves the morning after, but he is not so quickly dismissed.

He strode up the stairs and pointed at me, his gorgeous mouth curving into a grin. “You. Outside. Unless you want me to kiss you senseless in front of all these ladies.”

The chemistry between these two is absolutely sizzling and Brett has no intention of letting Riley go. He lives hundreds of miles away from her, but his romantic pursuit is totally swoony and he is soon flying the two of them off to tropical locations every weekend for hot and steamy getaways. And so begins an absolutely gorgeous love story!

“I told you, this doesn’t have to be anything.”
“Or,” he shrugged, stepping forward, his mouth pressing softly against my cheek … “It could be the start of everything.”

Unfolding against the romance is a darker, more terrifying storyline that gets you guessing how it is all tied together. And it all gets more complex when we get a little bit of Brett’s POV and realise that he is keeping some very big secrets.

The books I have read by this author always come with a twist, so I was on the lookout for it, and even though I picked it early on, it did nothing to diminish my enjoyment of the book. I was still at a loss as to figure out how it all came about and what was going on and the climax to the story had my heart pounding wildly! I do need to say that Riley needs a smack for her attempted spy manoeuvres. Idiot! Not that she deserved all that happened, but still…. if you have suspicions, just ask the guy!!!

This is a fast-paced, exciting read will sweep you up and keep you guessing. And when it’s done, you’ll sit back and marvel at how it’s all been put together. The love story is beautiful, and the darker parts are horrifying, but combined it makes a wonderful read.

“I feel like I’ve waiting my whole life for you,”

I loved – 4 stars.
