Not even love can conquer the demons of our pasts…

Flame and Maddie have found solace and safety in one another’s arms, two fractured souls beginning to heal. But no matter how strong their love grows, it can never completely vanquish the demons of their pasts. These demons are dormant, not defeated.

Now a new enemy threatens the Hangmen, and a new revelation threatens the peace Maddie and Flame hold so dear. Flame is fighting a multitude of wars – against the club’s new foe, against the horrors of his past, and against his fears – but the fire in his blood may be the only victor.

As Flame begins to spiral into his own personal hell, it is up to Maddie to bring her husband back into her heart. To remind him that, together, they can face any obstacle standing in their way. To show him that no one and nothing can tear them apart again.

His Maddie.
Her Flame.
The fight for their forever.

Dark Contemporary Romance. Contains sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and mature topics. Recommended for age 18 years and up.

Review

“Our love was not typical and certainly not easy, but it was soul-deep and destined”

4.5 stars

Fans of the Hades Hangmen series prepare to have your hearts ripped wide open once again as we revisit series favourites Flame and Maddie, as they continue to fight for the HEA they both crave so badly.

Flame and Maddie’s story in Souls Unfractured broke my heart, but watching the Hangmen’s most troubled and volatile member find happiness and peace with cult survivor, Maddie, was a beautiful journey. They have both endured so much and they found true love in a union that absolutely touched my heart. But while they have been living their lives happy together, they are still tormented by their pasts.

The demons both Flame and I lived with had merely been abated by our union, not exorcized. Love was a powerful remedy, but it was not a cure for some scars. They ran too deep. They were incurable. We had simply learned to live with our demons harnessed.

Flame, in particular, still battles with his demons, and when he is faced with a massive trigger, it sends him once again down a hellish path as his nightmares are realized, and it is one hell of an intense ride. This is by no means an easy read, and with the book written from the POVs of Flame, Maddie and Little Ash, we get to see every torment-filled moment, and oh, it hurt!

In that moment, I felt like a true failure. I did not know how to care for either of them. I did not know how to fix the Cade brothers. They were both lost, both so filled with pain and fear which would not ease.

In true Hangmen form, his brothers have his back, and watching the ‘family’ come together to support Flame and Maddie is just gorgeous. But it’s Maddie that absolutely shines in this book! She is there for her man and his brother, loving and supporting them through all that they are enduring, and I love the strength, patience and love that she shows to them both.

I would not fail him. He was my Flame. And I would stand beside him through it all. I would hold his hand and guide him through the fires of hell.

I also loved the multiple perspectives which not only got us up close to all that Flame and Maddie were going through, but also gave us a side-story for Asher, developing his storyline and building towards his own book which looks like it’s going to be all kinds of intense.

There’s also a whole lot of Viking, which provides some much-needed lightness as he brings his own unique ‘charm’ to the book. He’s there for his best friend, but he’s still the rude, crude, sex-crazed psycho that he always was… and we love it! His book is next and I cannot wait.

Flame and Maddie’s story is dark and full of torment (beware triggers – extreme violence, murder, self harm, drug use and sexual abuse off the page), but it’s also beautifully sweet with moments that had tears welling because of the beauty and purity of their love. This is a hard book to read at times, but it’s worth it to see them come through all of that darkness and out the other side.

“We can do this, Flame. Our souls may still be fractured, but they are healing. Someday, only faint scars will remain.”
“I don’t believe in much,” I confessed. My eyes closed. I was tired. “But I believe in you, Maddie. I’ve always believed in you.”

A beautiful read that is sure to be a big hit with fans of the series. I loved it.

4.5 stars.
