“What if you met the right person at the wrong time?”

4.5 stars

Another fantastic read from Vi and Pene! A fun and emotional read with fantastic banter, chemistry and sexual tension, and an emotional (mildly angsty) love story that completely captivated me. I loved this one!

When two strangers are stuck without accommodation during a blizzard in Colorado, they assume fake identities to claim a room from some no-shows. Declaring themselves as siblings Maddie and Milo Hooker, they shack up together, beginning a fun-filled adventure where it’s all about taking chances and nothing is off limits.

Maddie and Milo are actually Hazel and Matteo. Maddie is in Colorado on what would have been her honeymoon, if her fiancé didn’t call off their wedding months ago. She’s in a rut and needing something, so she figures the trip will be good to clear her head and help her move forward. Matteo has also been through a hard time and is feeling a bit lost, but the two of them share an instant connection and, neither of them wanting it to end, they decide to go on a roadtrip to live free and experience new things before they have to get back to real life.

Life is too short to waste it with people you’re not passionate about or doing something you’re not passionate about.

I love a roadtrip book, and this one is so much fun! Hazel and Matteo travel and explore, and embrace every moment of their journey. Their dynamic is fantastic – more friendship than romance – but you can feel the emotion growing between them, and it has the feeling of a slow burn as their already amazing connection begins to sizzle with sexual tension that just oozes off the page.

They have a great relationship. They are open and honest, they share everything, and they talk about everything that they are feeling and that is happening between them. They know there’s an attraction, they also know that their situation is a difficult one, and with the end of their trip looming and life about to change in a big way they will be put to the test in ways they never could have imagined.

“Don’t mistake me trying to do the right thing for not wanting to do all the wrong things to you.”

This is such a great read. Hazel and Matteo are wonderful characters, I felt so much for both of them, and their story is beautifully told. I loved their roadtrip, the way they threw themselves into new experiences, and the way they embraced the fun and adventure. And of course, I revelled in their chemistry! When the story took its expected shift, I sort of anticipated what was coming, but watching it all happen was just fantastic! I could feel it all, my heart was pounding, and I was desperate to know how it was all going to play out. There is drama, and some angst, but it’s not too overwhelming, and it makes the ending even sweeter to see them come through it all.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Andie Arndt and Sebastian York, and as always they tell the story beautifully. Written (and narrated) with humour, heart and heat, this is a beautiful story about friendship, fate and finding yourself and the person that you can’t live without.

I loved it – 4.5 stars.
