3.5 stars

This is a fun little bonus novella which gives us a glimpse into the story of Anne and Harrison – the parents of the Eden siblings, who are the main characters in The Edens series. It’s a second-chance, close-proximity, enemies-to-lovers romance that is full of chemistry, and a quick read that fans of the series will enjoy (though it can stand alone).

Anne and Harrison were together in high school, and they were in love, but it ended badly . Now, it’s six years later and Anne has come back home during her college break, and she’s reluctantly headed out to a cabin in the snow to spend the weekend with friends. However when she arrives, she discovers that Harrison has also been invited along, all grown up and more gorgeous than ever.

Harrison has no idea why Anne dumped him all those years ago, but being back with her again, he’s determined to get answers – and push her buttons along the way – and maybe just get the second chance that he’s hoping for.

It’s a fun set-up, and the snark is so entertaining. And with not enough beds in the cabin, Anne and Harrison have plenty of opportunity to get up close and personal. There’s still a spark between them, and I loved watching Anne try to resist the pull, but their coming together is inevitable, and I loved watching it happen.

Something was happening here, something that felt a lot like the future.

Obviously, I knew this was going to be a short read, but for me it felt a bit unfinished. The story is established well, I could feel the chemistry, but we didn’t see resolution to the original conflict, or any real emotional development. Of course we know they get their happy ending, but as a hopeless romantic, I wanted to see it. I was so instantly connected to the characters and sucked into their story, I just wanted more of it.

But it’s a fun read, and I loved the opportunity to see where it all began for these two.

3.5 stars.
