Pro football might see me as their favorite underdog, but Madison Westfield would rather see me six feet under.

My ex-best friend’s little sister has every reason to hate me.

I took her boyfriend’s spot on this team, her brother might lose his too, and our short-lived engagement years ago is part of the reason our families are locked in a grudge match that has the whole league on edge.

Ruining me would fix most of her problems, but she’s stuck trying to work a PR miracle with my career instead.

Making my way through her build-a-better-image checklist is the kind of torture I’ll gladly sign up for, especially if I get to help her prove everyone wrong.

But it means we’re spending a lot of time alone together, and when it comes to Madison, I’ll take any chance she gives me.

Even if it means there’s hell to pay—on and off the field.

Review

4.5 second chance stars!

It’s been ten years since Quentin broke Madison’s heart in Before the Chaos. She wants nothing to do with him and it’s easy to stay away because he lives in a different city and her family and his are still very big rivals. When she gets a PR job with the team that Quentin’s uncle now coaches, she thinks his uncle the only one she’ll have to deal with. She couldn’t be more wrong then the very man she wants to avoid is her new PR assignment.

I am a sucker for second chance romances and after reading the prequel to Madison and Quentin’s love story, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Rival Hearts, and it did not disappoint! These two has fell hard and fast, and then their love was ripped away from them. Ten years pass and these two still have such hurt that it’s a shock to Madison when she learns she has to help Quentin’s image.

Feelings resurface, sparks fly, and heat consumes these two when they cannot deny who they are to each other. Madison tried so hard to keep her emotions in check because of her broken heart but Quentin refuses to let her. He knew exactly what he wanted and didn’t give up.  I loved that he realized that she is it and he made the biggest mistake of his life, and he wasn’t going to make it again. He was all in and Madison did not have a chance.  Once she realized she couldn’t be just friends and lets him back into her heart, these two were everything.

“I’ll jump through all the hoops you want me to.” He closes the distance between us, so close his lips are at my ear, and his body ghosts over mine. “But you should know I have ulterior motives. There’s only one thing I want.”

I love the work place/proximity trope, too, and thought the building sexual tension was so well done as Madison and Quentin worked together. It gave us an exciting, forbidden romance on top of the second chance they needed to badly.

I also enjoyed seeing the relationships that were broken in the prequel mend in this book, and how they worked together to take down the person who ruined so many lives.

“Do you love her?” He gives me a pointed look.
“Always have. Always will.”
“You won’t deserve her, you know. Ever—no matter what you do. Guys like us never do.”
“I know. But I’d rather spend the rest of my life trying and failing than not have her in my life.”

Overall, Rival Hearts gave us a swoon-worthy second chance romance, and I loved it!
