3.5 stars

The second book in the Empire Nightclub series, this is a continuation from Sweet Mercy, and the story picks right up where the last book left off, so don’t read this as a standalone.

Though Mercy entered Gabriel’s world solely to protect her imprisoned father, they’re now starting to feel more than just mad lust for each other. They’re getting to know each other, feelings are starting to develop, and their relationship is shifting.

“Isn’t it obvious, Mercy?” His deep blue eyes are oddly bright. “Because you were the final push for me. I want to be better for you. I want to deserve you.”

At the same time, Gabriel and his brother, Caleb, are making moves to break away from their mobster father, and they’re willing to work with the enemy to figure out a way out of the mess that is their birthright. Which puts all of them in danger.

It’s a fast-paced story full of chemistry and wildly intense sexy times. Gabriel and Mercy are finding their way forward together, and I loved watching the change in their dynamic.

There’s a big ending to this one, and I will be immediately diving into the next book of the series to see where the story goes from here.

3.5 stars.
