This is a short, fun read from Kayley Loring, the first in her interconnected Quick Pucks series, and a sexy, funny, no-strings-to-love story.

Craig Bowman is an NHL hockey player spending the summer in the small town he claims as his home, and Bridget is a local tailor he hires for an emergency pants-fixing situation. One thing leads to another, and they end up sharing a deliciously steamy night together. It’s not enough, and with neither of them wanting a relationship, they agree to a summer fling. Their arrangement continues whenever Craig comes into town over the next few years, until they find themselves all up in their feelings and not quite sure how to deal with it.

“I want to hook up tonight,” he says, as calmly and politely as if he’s ordering off a take-out menu. Meanwhile, I’m quivering … “If you enjoy yourself, then maybe we can hook up again while I’m in town. But I’m not looking for a girlfriend.”
“Great. I’m not looking for a boyfriend, but I would like to touch your butt, in extremely unprofessional ways.”
“I think we’re on the same page.” …
“No strings. No feelings. No expectations. Just sex.”
“Just great sex.” His hands slide up my chest, my neck to cup the back of my head. “That’s the page.”
“Got it. I’m on that page. As long as it’s great sex. If it’s average, I⁠—”
I don’t get to finish that sentence because Craig finally closes the distance.

At 105 Kindle pages, this is a short one, but Loring manages to create a fun read with great chemistry that had me invested in both of these characters. I loved Craig and Bridget. Like all of Kayley’s characters, they are authentic, relatable, and endlessly entertaining.

Her hair still has that glorious freshly-fucked quality, although if she’s going to be my girlfriend, I should probably start calling it recently-made-love-to hair.

Kayley’s writing is fantastic and, as always, the banter is sensational. I enjoyed the way the story is structured as we check in with Craig and Bridget over the course of a years-long ‘situationship’, the text conversations are fun, concussed Craig is hilarious, and every moment with these two together is so entertaining.

There’s not really room for much emotional depth, but this is a thoroughly enjoyable novella that is packed with humour, chemistry and heart.

3.5 stars.
