A fun enemies-to-lovers romance, Emma Chase balances laugh-out-loud comedy with beautifully emotional romance, making this a wonderfully entertaining and genuinely heartfelt read. I loved it!
Damon and Jade are from competing real estate development companies. They are both desperate to claim a long-sought-after property on the waterfront, and when they both inherit it following the owner’s death, there are conditions on them claiming it. They have to live in it together for four months, with no contact from the outside world. The first one to leave the property, loses.
Yes, it’s a bit of a silly premise, but this is a romcom, so the idea is just to suspend disbelief and enjoy the ride, and that’s exactly what I did.
Damon and Jade despise each other, and they set about making life as difficult for the other as possible. It all starts with snarky arguments and Home Alone-style pranking that made me laugh out loud. As the weeks pass, they begin to rely on each other, and before too long their rivalry turns into a reluctant friendship. That soon deepens into something more as the chemistry between them becomes deliciously steamy, and real feelings develop.
But there’s more than just a huge house standing in their way. Jade is drowning under the expectations of her toxic family, and Damon is desperate for success to avenge his family. There’s so much standing in their way, and yet Damon and Jade fall wildly for each other despite it all. But what will happen when they need to face the real world?
This is such a great read. It’s funny, the enemies-to-lovers vibes are real, the sexual tension is fantastic, and the love story is passionate and beautifully romantic. I loved both Damon and Jade, and loved watching their walls come down as they got vulnerable with each other. The emotion of those moments really brings the feels and makes this a gorgeously heartfelt read.
Even though Damon and Jade are isolated for most of the book, there is an extended cast of characters who are lots of fun, and the ending of the book is super satisfying.
It’s an entertaining, heartfelt romance that had me invested in Damon and Jade and their love story. I finished this one with a big smile on my face.

The audiobook is narrated by Sean Masters and Brooke Bloomingdale, who do a wonderful job. They capture both the humour and the emotion of the characters, and I really enjoyed listening to this one.
