Erin’s older sister has gotten a new job at a posh hotel in a wealthy coastal town. She’s excited to move there and leave the past behind. Unfortunately, the past decides to follow them in the form of her sister’s sleazy ex-boyfriend, Graham. Erin has never liked him (with good reason) and has always gone out of her way to avoid him. So when her sister caves and takes him back, Erin gives her an ultimatum: him or me.

Sadly, she chooses Graham, leaving Erin with nowhere to live. While visiting her sister’s work to drop off her key, she discovers some forgotten storage space in the attic of the hotel. It’s a perfect spot to hide out, full of unused furniture where she can lay low until she finds somewhere else to stay. And it all goes swimmingly until the hotel owner’s son discovers her one day. Erin is humiliated, because this boy isn’t a stranger. Tristan Balfe goes to her school. He’s one of the most popular students and the star rugby player.

Erin expects Tristan to tell her to leave, but instead he promises to keep her secret, so long as he can hang out with her from time to time to eat junk food and watch reality tv shows. Erin readily agrees and a friendship blossoms between them. Still, Erin knows she needs to move on at some point. She can’t freeload forever and she doesn’t belong in Tristan’s world.

However, when the time comes to leave she doesn’t have the courage to tell him and flees without a word of goodbye. Tristan is left wondering whatever happened to the girl who captured his heart for a few short weeks during his last year of school.

A Quiet Promise is a novella of the Quiet Love series and is a prequel to Tristan’s full-length book, Beneath the Quiet Sky (Quiet Love #5).

Review

5 stars!

I have loved every character I have met in the previous Quiet Love books so it’s no surprise that Erin and Tristan captured my heart as well.

Erin and her sister, Sloane, moved to Dublin when Sloane’s boyfriend’s drug dealing job caught up with him. Three men roughed up Sloane and took her savings to pay off her boyfriend’s debt. The move was the new start Erin and Sloane needed and they were doing well for a while. However, now the boyfriend’s back in the picture and Erin needs to get away.

Erin is hardworking She adapts when she needs to and when she finds herself homeless after her sister chooses her boyfriend over Erin, she settles in the attic of the Balfe Hotel. She gets a job and goes to school trying to make things work so she can get her own place eventually. She’s embarrassed and stays to herself but somehow Tristan Balfe finds his way into her life.

Tristen is a genuinely nice guy who sees something different in Erin. She catches his eye and he can’t get her out of his head. They seem so different but get along so well. He promises not to tell a soul that she’s living in his family’s hotel and does everything he can to help her. It’s beautiful to see them start to build a friendship and it’s even better when it turns into more.

Circumstances change though and they are pulled apart. I was rooting hard for these two so I was so sad when Erin left. While I understood why things went the way they did, it didn’t really ease the pain. It also made me super eager for more of Erin and Tristan because this is just the beginning.

A Quiet Promise is a prequel novella to their full-length book, Beneath the Quiet Sky, and I am so excited for their complete love story. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes and can’t wait for these two to reconnect.
