5 RIGHTEOUS STARS FOR A SENSATIONAL FINISH TO ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SERIES EVER!

Kristen Ashley, I already worship at your feet, how much more awesome can you possibly get? I have been waiting oh-so-impatiently to get my grabby little hands on this book, and I can honestly say it was everything I wanted it to be! From the first few pages I had a massive grin on my face because it was just SO Rock Chick! KA immediately captured the mood, the language, and everything that I love about these books within just a few pages. God, the woman is brilliant!

And finally, it’s Ally’s turn. While I have always liked Ally, she had never been my favourite of the Rock Chicks. I loved the opportunity to get to know her better, and I can honestly say, I absolutely adore her! She’s strong, she’s confident, and she’s not willing to sacrifice her goals and what she wants, for anything. The whole way through the book, I understood why she does what she does, and I love her sass and her attitude – and OMG, she’s a total badass, and I love that! She also has a massive heart, and is there for those she loves without question. One of the original Rock Chicks, she has always had a sense of mystery about her. And now, in glorious detail, we get to find out exactly what has been going on.

And part of what is going on is Ren Zano. Ren Zano… God. Damn!! Alpha, sexy, romantic, funny, sexy, protective, sexy, in touch with his feelings, sexy, and a badass to boot. Has there ever been a more incredible man? This is a massive call, but I think he eclipsed Luke as supreme Rock Chick Man for me. Absolutely, unbelievably perfect. I’m totally obsessed.

It’s obvious that something has been going on between these two over the last few books. This one starts with a fabulous tie in to another of KA’s series (love how she continuously does that) and we are thrown straight into the insanely fiery chemistry that Ally and Ren have together. KA then takes us back over the course of their relationship starting with Ren’s appearance in the series during the events of Rock Chick Revenge (Luke and Ava’s book), and all the way back to the present day.

Ally and Ren’s story is different from the standard Rock Chick/Hot Bunch courting ritual, as they already know each other and have had a long-term fuck buddy arrangement. Sort of… well, at least until Ren decides that they’re not.

“How many times do I have to tell you? We’re fuck buddies, Zano.”
He shook his head again, his thumb sweeping across my cheek and his face getting so close to mine, his lips nearly brushed my own.
“No, baby , we are not. I’ve had fuck buddies, Ally. And not one of them looked like you look when I slide inside you, every fucking time I slide inside you. Like a piece of you has been lost and now it’s found.”
Oh crap.
I probably looked just like that.

Ren and Ally are dynamite together, and I love that he knows just how to handle his woman.

He lifted his hands to his face and rubbed, muttering under them, “Fuck me.”
I rolled to my side, got up on an elbow and requested to know, “If I try to leave and go find Darius, are you going to pin me to the bed again?”
He removed his hands from his face and locked eyes with me. “Fuck yes.”

And even though he’s not actually a member of the Hot Bunch, he knows what he wants, and he’s totally got the dialogue down…

“You’ve got your way, the way you are and the way you are with the ones you care about. And that tells me, a man gets in there, you give that to him, the children you give him, that man will be all kinds of lucky. And I’ve decided we’re gonna see if that man is me.”

Somewhat unusually for a Rock Chick book, Ally and Ren sort themselves out pretty early on in the book, and, together, they are sensationally functional. There is no stupid, no game playing, they are both straight up with each other about how they are feeling, they communicate, they compromise, and it’s absolutely brilliant! Their romance is told with the usual humour, tender moments, and scorching hotness that we love from KA, and the banter and dialogue between them is awesome.

“That was hot,” I declared and watched his body lock.
“What?”
“No. That’s not right,” I said . “That wasn’t hot. That was smoking’ hot, and I don’t care if that makes me a freak. It was hot. You were hot. Now I’m hot. So hot, I may have an orgasm, standing here remembering it.”

While Ally and Ren’s love story is a huge part of the story, this is very much Ally’s book and there is so much more going on in Ally’s life. Most notably, her career. As her mysterious activities over the last few years are uncovered, we get to see very clearly where she is headed. After all, she’s a Nightingale…

Badass and brave runs in the family.
And as far as I’m concerned, I got those genes.
It’s just that no one agrees with me.

She shares the same passions as her brothers, and her father before her, and watching her take charge of her future, and fight for her dream was awesome.

And then there’s everything else that goes on. I can’t possibly talk about everything that I loved about this book, so this is the condensed version…

  • Not one, but TWO weddings – one that made me laugh, the other made me cry (happy tears of course)
  • Rock Chick/Hot Bunch wedding assignations”. That whole conversation was GOLD!
  • Ally having a special moment with each of the Hot Bunch at some point during the book
  • Asshole speak
  • Chin lifts and macho alpha telepathic communication
  • Tex (always)
  • Receptionist smackdowns
  • You dance?
  • Favourite sex positions
  • The Rock Chicks hanging out
  • Ally and Indy
  • Ally and Darius– love the friendship between these two, and I loved getting to know Darius more, and the direction of his story.
  • Ally, Lee and Hank (such protective big brothers – love them!)

He put his lips to my ear and said, “He hurts you, I’ll fuck him up.”
Loved my big brother.

I cannot gush enough about how much I love these characters! From lip quirks to crinkly eyes, dimples and shit eating grins, each little gesture is so familiar and says so much, I feel like I know these people! KA has given us a MASSIVE cast, and they’re all so well developed, and so all over each other’s lives – it’s awesome. Plus, being such a close knit group, we get the opportunity to check in on everybody – and I do mean, everybody.

I can’t believe this is the end! I’m so sad that we won’t be seeing this group all together again, but it is finished off perfectly (epilogue included, of course), and I know I’ll be coming back and reading these books over and over again. Plus there is promise of a spin off, with Mace and Darius setting up in LA with a whole new bunch of badasses.

This is a really long book… really long, and definitely moves at a slower pace than other books of the series, but still, I soaked up every moment. I laughed, I swooned, I squeed, and I fist-pumped. It was a phenomenal ride, and I loved every minute of it. Definitely one of my favourite series EVER!

5 righteous stars.
