“I’ll always love you enough for the both of us. Always.”

4 sexy and swoony second chance stars

Oh, how I love a second chance romance! Throw in a possessive alpha male, swoony declarations, a whole lot of sexy time, and that special ‘something’ that makes Aurora Rose Reynolds’ books so damn enjoyable, and this is a really great read!

June Mayson is the daughter of Asher and November from Until November. When her story was hinted at in the first book of this series, Until July, I was immediately intrigued. A secret marriage, a man scarred by his experience in war, two broken hearts, and an emotion-fuelled reunion. It’s like crack for romance lovers!

Evan and June met three years ago. They fell in instant and all-consuming love, and were secretly married before he headed off to boot camp. But Evan was immediately shipped off to war and his experiences overseas destroyed him. Completely lost by all that he went through and knowing that he’d never be good enough for June, he served her with divorce papers, effectively breaking both of their hearts as a couple that were very clearly meant to be together were torn apart.

When I was with him, I knew it was where I belonged. Right down to my bones, I knew that, I was meant to be his and he was meant to be mine.

She wasn’t important— she was fucking vital, the best thing that ever happened to me. But then I had to let her go so my fucked up didn’t ruin her.

Now, Evan is back. And not only is he back, but he’s working with June’s cousins Jax and Sage in their security business. And what do you know, his latest job is protecting June from her dangerous, drug-dealing ex-boyfriend. June is pissed that Evan is back and intruding on her life, but deep down she knows she’s never gotten over him, so she’s all kinds of confused. Evan tried his best to stay away, but watching June day in and day out, he’s done holding back. June is the love of his life, and he is determined to win her back.

Like all ARR books, this book is super romantic with June and Evan unable to deny their connection for too long. Their reunion happens fairly quickly, though they still have a lot they need to work through, but Evan makes his feelings clear and the swoon is off the freaking charts!

“I love you,” he says gently, running his fingers along my hairline. “Never going to stop loving you, baby.”
“Ev,” I breathe, feeling tears burn my throat.
“I’ll wait for you to find it again. I’d wait forever for you.”

*dreamy sigh*

And the sexy time is absolutely steaming! June and Evan’s connection is intense – in and out of the bedroom, and there is an abundance of love scenes which show that. And their freakish physical connection brings out Evan’s alpha side over and over again, which is all kinds of hot!

“You’re mine. I mean that in the most fucked-up, primal way possible. If it were legal to own you, I would.”

The newly reunited couple have a lot that they need to work through. The love is there, and neither of them deny that, but the trust needs to be rebuilt, and that is a slower process, but they do it beautifully, with no stupid behaviour or game playing, just following their hearts and never losing sight of the happy ending that they both want.

And there are also things happening outside of their relationship – the first being June’s family. Their sense of betrayal over the secret marriage, and their distrust of Evan is realistic and well written, and again I loved seeing Asher as the uber-protective Dad who would do anything for his girls.

“I love you, more than anything in this world, and nothing will ever change that.” He kisses my forehead then leans back, catching my eyes again. “If you need someone to talk to, I’m here, and if not, your mom doesn’t love you as much as I do, but I’m sure she’d hear you out too.”

And in addition to the family dramas there’s June’s ex, a scary break-in and biker issues to contend with. It all adds to the excitement of the story, and provides some nice drama as a background to June and Evan’s reconciliation.

But it’s all about the romance, and June and Evan finding their way back to each other and getting their HEA a beautiful journey. Full of all of the sweetness, romance, passion and intensity that I have come to expect from this author, this is a great read.

I loved it – 4 stars.
