Book #6 in the Until Her/Until Him series, and another it’s all very same-same from the Mayson clan. Not that that is a bad thing, I like that in a book, and this series is one I go to when want a book that is like comfort food – easy, romantic and sexy with very little angst.

Having said that though, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I have other books in the series. It was good, but I didn’t love it. I’m wondering if that’s more to do with the narration than the story? But more about that later.

This is the story of Harmony Mayson – eldest daughter (with her twin, Willow) of Sophie and Nico. Harmony has just moved back to her home town, started work as a nurse with a clear career path in mind, and has bought her first home. She’s shy and quiet, and quite cautious, so when she meets big, gruff, bearded biker, Harlen, she is wary.

Harlen works at the same auto shop as other guys in the series, and is a member of their larger circle of friends. From the moment he sees Harmony, he is smitten, but he recognises how nervous she seems around him so he keeps his distance romantically, instead becoming her friend and waiting for her to be ready for more.

Their friendship is really sweet. They hang out and spend time together, Harlen is still all alpha protective over Harmony, but he keeps things strictly platonic. And when their attraction becomes too intense to ignore… boom.

Fuck but I’ve fallen for her, and done it hard.

The love story may be a little slower to develop than we’re used to from this series, but it’s no less intense. Passionate and all-consuming, Harmony and Harlen are all over each other and they fall madly. It’s hot and swoony, with lots of sexy time, sweet moments and heartfelt declarations, and it’s a really gorgeous love story.

“I know without the shadow of a doubt that every single moment in my life led me right to her, that not only am I in love, but I’m in love with her in a way I will be until the day I die.”

But, totally unsurprisingly, there is danger in the air, threatening their HEA. It’s not exactly a plot twist, because you can see it coming a mile way, and honestly the ‘drama’ was a bit blah. It’s been done so many times before – even in this one series – and it didn’t add excitement, suspense or meaning to the story. The only thing it seemed to do was to introduce Cobi’s love interest for the next book, which I’m looking forward to reading.

But it’s all over and done with pretty quickly, leading us to the HEA, which was sweet, but honestly, I’d sort of zoned out a bit by the time we get to that point.

The book is written in dual POV but the audiobook is narrated entirely by a dude. Now, I’m not being all sexist over this because women narrate guys on audio all the time, but with this book I think the narrator made such an effort to make the characters sound different that his voice for Harmony was overly sweet and ‘girly’, and she just came off sounding constantly whiny, insecure and unsure (not helped by the amount of time Harmony spends crying throughout the story). And whenever he narrated Harlen, his voice was so gruff he sounded like a grizzled old man sitting on his porch polishing a rifle or something. And his Nico voice was even harsher! It didn’t really give me romantic vibes, which I’m sure took away some of the feels for the book for me. Which was a shame.

As always, it’s a treat seeing our beloved heroes from the Until series in the roles of protective fathers, and Nico is no different – in fact he’s probably even more intense, which is funny. But also really sweet as he slowly begins to accept Harlen.

“Couldn’t have chosen better for my girl, even if I tried.”

Overall, this book fell a bit flat for me. It was cute, but just ‘blah’. But I’m still looking forward to continuing on to the series.

3 stars.
