Release & ARC Review: 50 First Skates (Quick Pucks, #3) by Kayley Loring

50 First Skates by Kayley Loring is live!

The third Quick Pucks novella, this is my fave of the series! As the title suggests, this is a fun take on the movie 50 First Dates, and it’s such a sweetly romantic story.

He falls first. Every single day…

Dean Rafferty started his new job with one important goal—turn things around for the Kenton Comets as their assistant coach. He’s been in this small town for less than two weeks and the season is already over. On the bright side, he meets a beautiful young woman who wants him to teach her how to skate.
On the not-so-bright side, she doesn’t seem to remember meeting him.
It turns out Soleil Barrett is off-limits for three very specific reasons. A) She’s the head coach’s daughter. B) Her overprotective father has forbidden her from setting foot on the ice since she was a child. C) She has short-term-memory loss and doesn’t know it.

It’s the opposite of a hat trick.

Even though Dean tries to avoid her, somehow Soleil keeps showing up at the rink to ask him to give her skating lessons. Will Dean walk away from the most charming woman he’s ever met or will he lace up for someone who’ll forget about him when she falls asleep?

Never underestimate a hockey man who’s found his dream girl. Even if he has to introduce himself to her every morning.

The third Quick Pucks novella, this is my fave of the series! As the title suggests, this is a fun take on the movie 50 First Dates, and it’s such a sweetly romantic story.

Dean is an assistant coach for a junior hockey team, and when he meets Soleil, they are both instantly smitten. For the first time in his life, Dean can see commitment and a future with a woman, and he couldn’t be more excited. But the next time he sees Soleil, she acts like she doesn’t know him. Turns out that Soleil suffers from retrograde amnesia, and her memory resets every night while she sleeps. Not only that, but she is his coach’s daughter and completely off limits.

While Dean tries to keep his distance, Soleil is suddenly everywhere he is. With her father’s blessing, they start to spend time together, and Dean falls fast and he falls hard.

“I show up every morning because when I wake up, the thing I’m most excited about is seeing you.”

It follows the storyline of the movie, but this is a Kayley Loring story all the way. The characters are funny and engaging, the banter is top notch, and the romance is fun, sweet and sexy. Dean is incredible as a golden retriever hero with a heart of gold, and he shines as a man who is wholly smitten with his girl.

Their challenges are significant and unique, and it’s best not to think too deeply about the logistics of it all. I just went with it, revelling in Dean and Soleil’s incredible chemistry and watching them deal with it all the best they can, and it’s so wonderfully romantic.

It’s a gorgeous love story, full of the humour and emotion that I love about Kayley Loring’s writing. She packed some great feels into just 96 pages, and I really enjoyed this one.

4 stars.
