“Hide from fate all you like … But it shall soon find you”

4.5 stars

Wow, what a read! Huge twists and turns, devastating events and massive reveals, it’s exciting, emotional and a real rollercoaster ride. I loved it!

Celaena Sardothien has become the King’s Champion and is now the royal assassin. But though she acts loyal to the crown, appearing to do the King’s bidding, she is far from his obedient servant. Her latest target turns out to be a childhood friend, and in attempting to help save him she uncovers a band of rebels and a secret plot that will impact her life in ways she could never have imagined.

Celaena continued to rock my world through this book. She’s well aware of the treason she is committing, but her disgust for the king and his brutal, power-crazed rule guide her, and I love the strength that shows in following her heart. She such an amazing heroine – strong, smart and brave, yet vulnerable and we really get to see her in action in this book, and damn, the girl is amazing!

“I don’t think you realize who you’re dealing with.”
The man clicked his tongue, “If you were that good, you would be more than just Captain of the Guard.”
Chaol let out a low, breathy laugh. “I wasn’t talking about me.”

Meanwhile, things in the glass palace are getting creepier. There are strange creatures lurking the halls, mysterious goings on in the secret tunnels and rooms that she frequents, and danger is a lot closer than she knows.

And then there’s her heart. Despite all of the pain she has been through, all of the loss that she has suffered, she has allowed Prince Dorian and Chaol, Captain of the Guards, to get close to her, becoming close friends. And one of them even more than that, as feelings finally come to the surface and we get a gorgeous, heart-felt romance.

“It wouldn’t have made any difference to me. It’s never made any difference to me when it came to you. I’d still pick you. I’ll always pick you.”

But can love survive secrets and betrayal? And with our brave crew facing danger, death, secret plots and otherworldly terrors, then Dorian’s big discovery and Chaol’s game-changing actions, it’s all happening, and nothing will ever be the same.

With lots of action, brutal violence, magical happenings and political plotting, there’s so much going on in this story. I was hooked from start to finish and felt so much! And with all of those twists and turns, the events at the end of the book shift the series in a direction that I am so excited to see play out. I can’t wait to continue on.

4.5 stars.
