After eighteen years, I’ve come home to the Scottish island of my childhood. It’s the place I vowed I wouldn’t return to so I never again had to see the man who broke my heart into a million pieces.

Yet family has inevitably brought me back, and avoiding my ex, Quinn McQuarrie, is proving impossible when he insists on digging up the past every time we meet.

Quinn is now a single dad, the local contractor, and the person the entire town is rooting for to get his happily ever after. The problem is, he wants me to be his HEA, and I just want to move on. When Quinn sees my plans to save the town’s volunteer lifeboat service as an opportunity to work together, I’m stuck with him. And, unfortunately, I soon realize there’s no denying that the chemistry we share has only grown more intense with the passing of time.

I know Quinn wants more than just a physical relationship, but it’s all I can promise with so much hurt and distrust between us.

However, when strange disturbances escalate to harassment, our lives are turned upside down, and Quinn proves he will do anything in his power to protect me. Even if it means losing each other before we ever get our second chance…

5 stars!

An emotional second-chance-romance with angst and drama and all the feels, this is such a beautiful read, and I absolutely loved this one!

I adored the first book in this series, and the tease for Quinn and Taran’s story had me so freaking excited! Childhood sweethearts torn apart and reunited after 19 years, when Taran moves back to their small home town in the remote Scottish isles, OMG, I was here for it and I devoured this book!

Quinn and Taran grew up together in their small Scottish town. He was her brother’s best friend, and as teenagers they fell in mad, all-consuming love. It fell apart when Taran left town to go to university, and she was left so broken-hearted that she hasn’t returned home since. But her mother’s illness brings her back to town, putting the two former lovers back in each other’s lives for the first time in 19 years.

I was utterly in love with this woman. Always had been. Always would be.

For Quinn, Taran is the one who got away, she is his biggest regret, and he sees this as his long-awaited second chance, but she is still so full of hurt and anger and she wants nothing to do with him. It’s emotional and angsty, and oh, I hurt for these two! Quinn holds nothing back in his fight for the woman he’s always loved, pouring his heart out over and over, and the emotion of it all had me completely swept up in the epic longing and swoon.

“You must have been with women since … Why not give one of them a chance?”
“Because…fuck, Taran, are you not hearing me? They’re not you. I want what I only feel with you. I’ve felt at home with you since we were kids. Like I was put on this earth to be your home and you are mine. A safe space. True friendship. And passion unlike anything I’ve ever known.”

The situation is made all the more intense when it looks like one or both of them are in danger, targeted by an unknown assailant. We’re given a sneak peek of this in the prologue, but the mystery and tension builds through the story and works well to increase the emotion.

But this book is all about the romance, and oh, I loved it! The angst, the longing, the passion and the drama, I was here for all of it, and I loved seeing these two finally get the happy ending that they both so desperately deserve.

“I love you.” He pulled me impossibly closer. “I can’t be happy without you, and I would risk losing you a thousand times over if it meant having just the smallest chance at forever with you.”

*swoooooon*

There’s a wonderful group of characters in this story, made up of real and found family. Quinn’s kids are fantastic and bring so much to the story and his own personal journey, and their friend group brings some fantastic dynamics. We get to check in with Ramsay and Tierney from the first book, and the set-ups are there for the next two books, and I am so excited to continue on.

This is such a beautiful read, and I loved this book so much. 5 stars.
