HE IS THIS STORIES LEAST LIKELY ROMEO.

Roman Whitaker is every girl’s best friend. An easy going nice guy, Rome is brilliant and funny. At the age of twenty-two, he’s moving out of his parents’ house for the first time and into off-campus housing with two complete strangers.

No more Mister “Playing it Safe.”

Rome may be wicked smart, but math and science will only get him so far, and they certainly won’t land him a first date with the girl of his dreams.

For that, he’ll get a little unwanted help from his friends—and meddling family members.

YOU NEVER FORGET A FRIENDLY FACE.

Lilly Howard is tired of being taken for granted. After breaking up with her philandering boyfriend, she’s giving up guys and learning to love herself again.

She’s sick of playing nice.

When she bumps into Rome, they become instant friends. When he asks her to be his fake girlfriend to keep his family off his back, she agrees—but only if he’ll return the favor…

3.5 stars!

A sweet and fun friends-to-lovers romance.

This is book #6 of the Jock Hard series, but can absolutely standalone. We saw Roman briefly in the epilogue of Jock Reign. He had just moved in with Jack and Eliza, and now we get his story!

Rome is a self-declared nerd, he’s fully concentrating on his studies in math and science, and has been trapped living at home by his loving, overbearing, but well-intentioned family. He’s decided now is the time to move out, and is looking forward to embracing a bit of independence, and maybe even getting out and having a bit of a social life.

After being cheated on by her boyfriend, Lilly has sworn off men. It’s time to take a sabbatical from relationships, and just ‘be’ for a little while. So what better opportunity to hang out with her ex-roommate, Eliza, in her new home?

Roman and Lilly have an awkward but entertaining first meeting, which is actually a second meeting, because they actually met three years earlier when they were freshman, both at a party that neither of them wanted to be at, and they hid together and talked for the night. And when the two of them start spending time together, it takes no time for them to slip into the easy friendship that was hinted at the night they met.

These two are so cute together! Roman is shy and awkward, and Lilly is very aware of that, but she’s looking for some quiet companionship as well, so the two of them fit easily, and they have a good time together. There is an attraction there, and when they realise they can help each other out by pretending to be in a relationship – in front of his family and her ex – they’re all for it… though lines are very quickly crossed.

I am not built for this; I still have lots of work to do on myself and confidence to gain before I’m completely comfortable confessing all my wants and desires to a pretty girl I have feelings for – but for Lilly, I will have to try.

It’s not exactly an easy coming together, but slowly, awkwardly, and eagerly, Roman and Lilly find their way forward and explore their feelings for each other. It’s sexy and sweet, and so freaking cute. For me though, the story kinda falls short on the romance. The book ends abruptly, without us seeing a whole lot of romantic stuff, which I missed. It does end in a good place, I just wanted more.

I did love seeing so much of Jack and Eliza – I love those two together, and they adopt Rome into their little family so easily, and as a group they’re a lot of fun together. And Rome’s family is an absolute riot! From his smothering mother to his irritating little brother, and most especially his sexually liberated Great Aunt Myrtle. The scenes with them all together had me laughing out loud.

It’s a run read, and a quick one, and I enjoyed this cute story.

3.5 stars.
