4.5 ‘Oh My Lord’ stars

The third book in the Beneath series brings us the story of Lord and Elle, and their story is fantastic! I love when an alpha hero goes up against a strong sassy heroine, and Lord and Elle have a sensational dynamic! They argue and banter, but their chemistry is electric, and the love story between these two was absolutely beautiful!

Lord is the older brother of Con, and Elle is the best friend of Vanessa – both from Beneath This Ink. They were both introduced in the last book but they weren’t together in any way, and this book begins with Elle marching into Lord’s pawn shop, Chains, and demanding a job. He doesn’t actually agree, rather she just appoints herself, but Lord has no idea that the gorgeous spitfire is about to turn his whole world upside down.

Lord has had a difficult life, growing up without a family before joining the Army and serving overseas. A tattooed bad boy, like his brother he is so much more than he seems, and his caring, big-hearted nature was absolutely gorgeous.

Elle’s life hasn’t been that much better. Though she was surrounded by wealth, she lost her beloved father and her mother married a heartless man who treats both her and her mother like garbage. She has bounced from job to job, never really finding her place until she lands on Lord’s doorstep.

And from the moment these two enter each other’s lives – watch out! The chemistry is there, the sexual tension is sizzling, and though Elle doesn’t want a relationship, Lord wants her, and what he wants, he gets. It creates a fun, banter-filled set up and I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two go head-to-head.

“Seems that even if that sassy mouth has a problem with me, that hot as hell body doesn’t.”
I glared. Or tried to. Who knew if I was actually successful, considering how distracted I was by the heat of his body.
I found my voice. “Unfortunately the sassy mouth and the hot as hell body come in the same package. And that package doesn’t date. And you can’t make me.”
I sounded like a little kid who didn’t want to eat her peas. And I wondered how long I was going to be able to hold out against him. Good Lord. Pun totally intended.

“I’m taking you out. You’ll get over it.”

Lord is pure awesome! I love him, and I love his determination to win Elle over. There’s no teasing or game playing, he just comes right out and tells her what he wants. And though he wants her badly, he wants an actual relationship, not just sex, and his pursuit of her was a fantastic mix of sweetheart and alpha caveman.

This woman was worth it, worth fighting for. Even if I was fighting her.

“Fucking meet me the rest of the way, woman. Show me you want this.”

And when they finally get together – Hot. Damn. SO freaking sexy, and though Lord is a dirty-talking alpha, he’s also a gentleman – attentive, gentle and tender when he needs to be, and it’s a winning combination!

“You shouldn’t be going to your knees for me, woman. You shouldn’t be going to your knees for any man.”
“But –“
“You want to suck my dick, you do it while you’re kneeling above me. I don’t ever want to see you on the ground on your knees.”
“But you did it for me.”
“Because you deserve to be worshipped.”

Their relationship develops easily and naturally, and though they have a whole lot of baggage they need to deal with, they work through it together, standing by each other, supporting each other, and following their hearts, and it was beautiful to see.

“Don’t know how I got so lucky, but I’m not letting you go. Whatever happens, Elle, you’re mine, and you’re staying mine.”
My words came without thought: “Like I could ever be anyone else’s.”

But even with everything that they are already dealing with, all is not well in either of their worlds. Elle’s ‘family’ is on the verge of imploding, and Lord’s world is a dangerous one, and with Elle’s arrival in his store and in his life, the wrong kind of people notice. There’s a mystery storyline woven through the book with a twist that’s really well done, and I like the edginess that it bought into the story. It suited these characters, their lives and what they were building together, and created a great intensity to the book.

And once again, the narration of this book was superb! Sebastian York and Andi Arndt are fabulous! Can’t recommend this audiobook enough.

I am loving this series! The books follow a bit of a pattern but each is unique in its own way, and I am so looking forward to continuing on.

Loved this one – 4.5 stars.
