“We’re the ones writing this story. We’re in charge of how it ends. And I fucking love you enough to rewrite it until we get it right.”

4.5 stars!

I loved this book so much! A gorgeously emotional, super-steamy love story that is fun, sweet and sexy (did I mention it’s sexy?) with a beautiful slow burn and a great build up. I completely fell in love with these characters and loved their journey.

Don’t let the fact that this is book #7 in the series put you off. I’ve not read any of the other books in this series, and it easily stands alone. In fact this is my first read by this author and I am really impressed, and I’m looking forward to exploring more of her work. But first, I need to gush a bit about Eliza and Angus.

Eliza is an Assistant Editor at a major publishing house, and her latest assignment is to work with best-selling author, Angus Domhnull. Angus is a successful and wildly popular sci-fi author, and the final book in his bestselling series is almost five years late. Eliza is thrilled at the opportunity to work with her favorite author, organising him during a promotional tour and helping him make progress on his long-awaited book, but he is a complete jerk to her. Angus has had a lot going on in his life and is struggling to get into his writing groove, but the last thing he needs is a babysitter, and he’s definitely not shy in letting Eliza know that. It’s not a great beginning for them, but the two of them soon find their groove, developing a working relationship and a friendship that neither of them were expecting, and underneath it all, a sizzling attraction.

OMG, these two have chemistry, and it’s evident from the very beginning. Their attraction simmers, but Eliza’s past has left her damaged and mistrustful, and she is very wary of men. Angus recognises this and he isn’t an alpha jerk making all kinds on demands on her, but that’s not to say he doesn’t give her a push – especially because he recognises her submissive nature, something that calls to his need for dominance, and their early flirtations are so much fun.

“You’re way too tightly wound. You need to relax. Get a massage. Get laid. Something … And if you need to submit to be able to let go, I volunteer as tribute.”

The development of things between them is deliciously slow burning and there is a true emotional connection that builds beautifully, and as they open up and get to know each other, everything between them begins to change.

Oh holy Lord, the hotness between these two is off the charts. When they do eventually go there, Angus’ dominance is sexy as all hell, and not demeaning or overly controlling, and it’s exactly what Eliza needs to let go. For too long she has hidden the secret part of herself, and as she puts her trust in Angus to give her what she needs, the connection between the two of them grows, and they fall hard for each other.

There are some strong BDSM elements in this book, but again it’s not OTT and it’s restricted to the bedroom (or wherever else they happen to be doing it). It’s kinky and dirty, with the use of toys, bondage, and a whole lotta dirty talk, but it’s absolutely consensual and all about letting go, and I thought it was really well written.

Pulling back, he waited until her eyes were focused on him again. “I think you need to fly.”
… “Will you catch me when I come down?”
“Always.”

But as sexy as this book is, it’s definitely focussed on the love story between Angus and Eliza and that is absolutely beautiful! Natural, easy and honest, it’s gorgeously heartfelt, and their falling for each other felt so right. Eliza has been through hell in her past, and watching her open up and allow Angus in was really nicely done, and he is just pure romantic hero perfection (and he has a Scottish brogue! *dreamy sigh*). At no stage did I get annoyed at their behaviour, I loved how functional and open they are with each other, and I felt everything right alongside them.

“I’m not going to push you. But I’m not going anywhere, either. Unless you want me gone. But even then, you should know that I’m going to fight for us.”

But when the ghosts of the past are finally revealed, they face their biggest battle as, despite their love for each other, the brutal truth could destroy everything they have found.

“I need you to hear me. Truly hear me.” He waited to speak again until she looked at him. “I don’t care about what came before. I care about now. I love you. I love who you are at this moment.”

This is such a gorgeous read. It’s easy yet emotional, captivating, fun, sexy and so beautifully romantic. These characters owned my heart from start to finish and I loved their story.

4.5 stars.
