4 “meant to be” stars

Ever since she was a child, Lyra knew she was different. She sees six-digit numbers when she looks someone in the eye and for years she never knew what they meant. When she discovers the truth of her “ability,” her world is turned upside down. It shapes who she becomes as a woman and she closes herself off to people, living only through the lens of her camera.

I don’t do connections. They always lead to hurt and heartache, because no matter how strong and resilient the relationship is, no one lives forever.

Working as a freelance photographer, Lyra’s profession sends her all around the world. Her current assignment has her touching down in Pamplona, Spain to cover the San Fermin Festival and the running of the bulls. Things seem to be going her way until tragedy strikes leading her to the man who would change her life forever.

EXP1RE, book one in the EXPIRE Duet, is the first I have read by Erin Noelle and I know it won’t be my last. It is unique, entertaining, intense, and emotional. A wild ride of self-discovery, letting go, and opening up to new experiences while letting someone in, the storyline was addictive and fast-paced, and I found myself quickly invested in the characters.

I thought Lyra was well-developed and interesting. Though she kept to herself, I could see her inner strength. Her fears and heartbreak of what she sees were realistic, and I really felt for her and all she had to endure to discover what it all meant. I loved when she realizes that sometimes her ability can be as much a blessing as a curse and she starts to look at things a little differently.

Suddenly everything is in crystal-clear focus for the first time since I was ten. I don’t know how I know, nor do I know why I know, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind this is exactly where I’m supposed to be. Right here, right now. It’s my destiny.

Tavian was an awesome character. A daredevil at heart, he lives life to the fullest, and the moment he meets Lyra he knows he needs to open her up to new opportunities. He sees how she doesn’t let anyone close to her heart and I loved that he was able to break down her walls and show her what she is missing hiding behind her lens.

“Let me be here for you, Lyra. Use me. I won’t let you fall…it’s time you stop hiding behind your camera and start living. I want to help you do that.”

I really loved Lyra and Tavian together. Watching them get to know each other was entertaining especially because they are so different, Tavian a risk taker and Lyra the complete opposite. They share an emotional connection that was palpable and believable. I saw their trust build between them and loved how sweet Tavian was with her. I could feel the sexual tension building as you turn the pages and I knew they would be electric together. I was rooting for them from the start but things between them are far from simple which just about broke my heart.

I fell in love with a man I’m not allowed to keep.

I was nervously anticipating the last page because I was dreading the ending. I knew there was going to be a cliffhanger since this is a duet and it’s one I didn’t see coming. I desperately want to see what happens in ETERN1TY!
