4 stars!

The second book in the Turning series, and we are thrust (pardon the pun) right back into the sensual world of the characters that I fell in complete love with in Taking Turns. This is a sexy, smart, heartwrenching romance as we are given the chance to explore the unique dynamic between Quin, Bric, Smith and the girl that left them and has now returned – Rochelle.

Beware that this review contains spoilers for the first book of the series.

It’s been a year since Rochelle left the game that the four of them were involved in, and so much has changed. Smith is now in a committed relationship and out of the game completely. And now Rochelle is back in the picture with a six month old baby, and no idea who the father is.

Quin was left broken hearted when Rochelle left. He truly fell for her, and though he tried to move on, he remains deeply in love with the woman who up and left them all without a word. Now she’s back and Quin is so confused. He’s hurt and so angry, but at the same time he wants Rochelle now more than ever. But he wants her for himself.

“She’s mine,” Quin says. “Just so you understand that. But I’m willing to share.”

Bric loved Rochelle in his own way. Her leaving changed everything for their group, but he was able to get on with things. He knows that Quin loves her deeply, and he knows that Rochelle reciprocates those feelings, but he also knows that her coming back isn’t going to be easy for the two of them. So he decides to create a new game – one where the three of them will be together in a ménage relationship, recapturing their passion for each other and exploring where the possibilities may take them.

Our bodies tangled up the way they were always meant to be. Arms and legs wrapped around each other as we kiss her and each other.

Addicted to the game. Addicted to the familiarity of the three of us. Addicted to the way they make me feel when we make love together.

OMG, this book is hot! If possible, I think it’s even steamier than the first, with a more sensual feel, and the chemistry between Quin, Bric and Rochelle is off the charts! It’s central to who they are, and it’s more than just sex as we can see their intimate connection from the very beginning. But their dynamic is different now. Firstly, there is no Smith, and he is clearly not happy to have Rochelle back in the lives of his friends. Secondly, Quin is still nursing a broken heart and is struggling to forgive Rochelle for leaving, or for the secrets she kept. And thirdly, there is now the addition of a baby in their lives. And as Quin takes his time to examine his feelings and figure himself out, Bric is there to support Rochelle and the baby, and she begins to see a different side to the man who was previously so closed off and anti-family and who is now her strongest protector.

He’s playing a game, but I’m pretty sure we’re not playing the same game.

It’s another twisted setup, and as they settle in to their new reality there’s a lot of change, setting the scene for some great character development as they figure out what they’re doing and what they want. But even though they may want it, can they have it?

The world is not made for threesomes. It’s made for couples. You’re playing a game. It’s a very dangerous game because it was designed to end. One day it will end.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s steamy and sexy, and it’s a gorgeous, if unique, love story. And again, the dynamics kept me absolutely enthralled as the story plays out. I love these characters! All so strong but with their own vulnerabilities, they are so wonderfully developed! I could feel the connection between them all, I loved the way that they love each other the way that they do, and their growth is so evident (though I have to stay that Bric seemed so different from the man that we met in the first book, and that seemed really sudden – but it was definitely a change that I liked!). And this book had an added emotional element that I thought was really beautifully done.

“I don’t want to play … I want it to be real.”

The story ends in a good place, but it leaves the dynamics forever altered once again. And that sets up the final book in the series beautifully.

I loved it. 4 stars.
