4 stars!

OMG, it’s all happening!!! I devoured the first four books in this series, and then had to wait for this one, and I’ve been dying to get my hands on it! With a myriad of questions and theories running through my head, I dove in, literally squealing with anticipation.

Spoiler
Is Evie really pregnant?
Where is Jack?
Where is Matthew?
Who is the Hanged Man?

Well, some of those questions are answered, and some are not, but OMG, I wasn’t expecting things to happen the way they did.

Death, betrayal and danger had my heart broken within the first few chapters, and it all went wild from there. We’ve been building up to a battle with Richter, and while that is still looming, in the meantime a new threat emerges that turns the game on its head. Everything changes once again, and Evie finds herself back out in the dangerous wasteland, this time in a new alliance, as they begin their search for answers.

There are new settings, new characters, new dangers and big reveals, and I was captivated as it all played out. There are multiple POVs in this book, and some pretty significant character development as the story rollercoasters along and I loved the way the different dynamics continue to be explored. There are highs and lows, and an epic reunion or two, and though this seemed more like a sideways-story rather than a progression towards the big ending, there are some big game changes that will impact what happens from here. And the horrifying thought is that there’s a whole lot of death that has to happen for this to all end!

And that love triangle…. Uuuuuugggghhhhhhhhh. I’m not a fan of them. Never have been. But this one seems harder to pick than most. Both of the guys are perfect for Evie in their own way, and I have so much love for both of them. I’m surprised at the direction things went in this book…

Spoiler
Evie gave up on Aric so quickly even though he is not at fault… and then having sex with Jack again! Really?
…and I was disappointed in Evie for being so damn fickle. There’s still no resolution, which is so freaking frustrating, and I was really disappointed at Evie’s inability to make a decision and the way it all ended up. But it does set up an epically emotional finale. For me, there’s only one way it can end…
Spoiler
One of them has to die – I’m thinking probably Aric, who will most likely sacrifice himself to save Evie and / or their child – because the thought of one of them living broken hearted without Evie is just too sad to contemplate
…but whichever way it happens, I know my heart will be shattered.

“One love fated. One love endless.”

With one more book to come in the series, we are once again left with an ending that is wide open, but the scene is set, the players are in place, and the seeds have been planted for where the story will end up. There is heartache on the horizon, but I remain hopeful that we’ll get a satisfying ending.

“That’s the thing about home … It’ll always be there waiting for you.”

I loved it. 4 stars.
