Blurb

When one man’s death exposes a complex web of lies, three couples discover the true meaning of love, loss and redemption.

Hailey
What do you do when you find out your whole life was a lie?
That your husband really wasn’t your husband but someone else’s.
That the vows you made to each other were simply empty promises.
You pick up and move to the country to start fresh.
When life hands you limes, you make sure you have tequila because your life is about to get stirred up.

Jensen
Married to my high school sweetheart, the best thing she gave me was my baby girl.
But we weren’t enough for her. I wasn’t enough for her.
The last thing I expected on my birthday was a Dear John letter, but that’s what I got when she upped and left.
Now, it’s just me and my girl against the world till the new girl moves in next door.

Is there such a thing as a perfect love story?

Wow, what a sweet, emotional, and swoonily delicious romance! A broken, grief-stricken woman and an equally broken and closed-off single father are completely swept off their feet in an unexpected enemies-to-lovers story, and I loved every moment of it!

Hailey’s world is shattered when her husband of only 6 months is killed in a car accident. Two days later her world implodes when she learns that her husband has another family – a wife of 12 years and two children, and that she is the other woman. Everything she thought she had was a lie, and she is utterly and completely lost. Consumed by her grief and devastated by the questions she knows she will never get answers to, her family pushes her to get a fresh start, so she sells everything and moves to a small coastal town, with her best friend by her side.

Taking a beautiful home on the beach, Hailey finds solace in her home and the calmness of the ocean. But the owner of her home, who just happens to live a little ways up the beach from her, turns out to be an absolute asshole. Bitter and cruel, he makes it clear that he doesn’t want her in his house, and though Hailey wants nothing to do with him, she finds herself running into him over and over, and falling head over heels in love with his four-year-old daughter, Mila.

Jensen Walker has been through his own life upheaval. He married his high school sweetheart and his life was turning out just as he was hoping it would. And then his wife took off with his best friend, leaving him with an infant daughter that she wanted nothing to do with. Since then, his life has been focussed on caring for his little girl and growing his construction business. He is a wonderful father, and Mila is the light of his life, and though he has good friends and a close family, he has closed himself off completely from the idea of dating or romance. Which is why he is supremely irritated by the gorgeous but heartbroken blonde who has moved into his house and who is wrangling her way into his daughter’s life.

They are two broken people with a whole heap of animosity between them, but who slowly come to an understanding, opening up to each other and unknowingly making the other feel something, and OMG, it’s spine-tinglingly gorgeous

“Why me?” I ask the obvious question.
“Because I know you won’t play games with me. I know that if you let me in, it’s genuine and real.”

There’s a whole lot of emotion for Hailey and Jensen to work through before there’s even a glimmer of something happening between them. Things begin to change slowly and naturally, and it’s a slow burn that becomes something sweet, open, honest and absolutely beautiful. They don’t hold back from each other, they are affectionate and they have fun, and it’s beautifully, sweetly and passionately romantic as they heal each other and begin to move on.

“You made me whole again. This thing with us, it started with me wanting to be your friend, it started with two broken people on the beach asking for answers we weren’t going to get.” I kiss her. “Or we were each other’s answers. We were the answers to each other’s questions.”

*dreamy sigh*

Little Mila is a really sweet addition to the story. Her relationship with her father, and with Hailey, is beautifully explored, and I loved Jensen as the protective, dedicated father. And as a romantic hero, he is swoony heaven! He and Hailey have a difficult start, but I loved watching everything change for them as they embrace all that they are feeling and claim their happiness.

“I love you,” I tell her as I kiss the middle of her chest and feel her heart beating under my lips. “With everything that I am, I love you.”

There’s a fantastic group of side characters. Hailey and Jensen’s friends and family are hilarious and lots of fun, and I love what a close-knight group they are. The rest of the series is clearly laid out for us, and with both explosive fireworks and high emotion expected in the next two books, I cannot wait to continue on!

I loved this one!

4 stars.

About the Author

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
