Synopsis

Hunter

When my business partner asked me to do him a favor, I had no idea he was sending me on a blind date his mother arranged for him. I walked in the bar, saw the woman drinking her third martini, and knew I was in for an eventful night.

After the unexpected second date, she didn’t know my real name or who I really was. By that time, the lie was too far gone, and I wanted her too much to admit the truth.

Laney

It’s not every day you find out your ex-boyfriend is engaged.

I shouldn’t have agreed to the blind date. My mother insisted, and I wasn’t in any position to turn down a night out.

I will admit, I definitely shouldn’t have ordered that fourth martini before said blind date even arrived.

The man turned out to be swoon worthy, handsome, condescending—a perfect distraction. Then I found out he was a liar.

I’ve never been in over my head to this degree.

Then again, I’ve never been in love.

Review

3 stars

This is a quick, fun read. A fast-moving romance with great chemistry, laughs and hotness that is easy and enjoyable, I really liked this one.

Hunter and Laney meet on a blind date gone wrong – he’s there in place of his best friend and business partner who got a better offer, she’s there on the day that she learned her gay ex-boyfriend is marrying another woman. Hunter arrives and Laney is well on her way to drunk, and being the highly protective alpha that he is, he takes care of her but doesn’t expect to ever see her again. But they meet up again and hit it off with fantastic and easy banter, flirting and teasing, both of them feeling a whole lot more for each other than they ever expected. But Laney is in for a big surprise when she learns that the man she was beginning to fall for isn’t who she thought, and Hunter’s truths cause more problems than just mistaken identity.

This is a fast moving story, with everything happening really quickly, but I could feel the connection between Hunter and Laney. I liked his persistence in pursuing her, I loved the lack of game playing and the way they both just put it out there for each other and followed their hearts – and their libidos – into a whole lot of hotness and an easy, honest relationship.

And as much as I enjoyed the banter and chemistry between them, the real fun in this book comes from the side characters! The friends, family and colleagues of this couple all have their own shenanigans that they’re up to, with side love stories and surprises, and I loved the teasing, crudeness and fun dynamics that they brought to the story.

I enjoyed this book, but it did seem a bit rushed. Between Hunter and Laney and all of the other characters there was so much going on in the story, and the conflict, to me, felt a bit forced, but thankfully with such a quick read at least it’s resolved quickly. This book felt like we just brushed the possibilities of what could have been a much deeper story, with more emotion and intensity, but obviously that wasn’t what was intended, and what we get is a quick read without too much depth, but enjoyable nonetheless.

3 stars.
