Review

“I could never have imagined how much my life would change with one click of a button.”

4.5 stars!

I love this book! A sweet, sexy, fun romance that is full of chemistry and super functional, with characters that completely stole my heart. It’s a unique twist on a modern love story, and I loved watching it all unfold.

Ryder and Eden meet in unlikely circumstances. Ryder is young, gorgeous and wealthy, working for his father’s film production company, but living a mostly solitary life and still coming to terms with the breakdown of a long-term relationship two years previously. While trolling the internet for porn one night, he comes across a ‘Cam Girl’, a girl who chats with men online, and performs various sexual activities. Of course he finds her attractive, but it’s her beautiful singing that draws him to her, giving him a sense of peace that he hasn’t experienced before. And it’s that that brings him back night after night, holding him captivated and driving him to contact her personally.

Performing online for men isn’t the dream job that Eden always dreamed off, but it pays the bills and it fits with her lifestyle and the responsibilities that she carries. She’s a strong woman who does what she needs to do, and I really admire that about her. She often talks one-on-one to men who pay for her time, but with Ryder it’s different from the beginning. He doesn’t want anything sexual from her, he just wants to talk, and when he comes back night after night, the two of them develop a friendship which quickly becomes more as their chemistry sizzles and their attraction blossoms.

“I’m sure if I told any of my friends about you, they wouldn’t get it. They’d tell me I was crazy. But if this is crazy, I don’t want to be normal, because I can’t remember a time when I’ve been happier.”

They share their personal lives without fully revealing their identifies or location, and when Ryder takes the chance to finally track Eden down, everything changes.

I don’t want to say too much more about this book. The above is just the beginning of Ryder and Eden’s story, and once they meet in real life, that’s when the love story really kicks off. All of the banter and flirting online has seen them grow close, and I was literally squeeing when they finally got to see each other. And from there a beautifully honest, easy and real relationship develops. They don’t play games, they are open with their feelings, and they are accepting of each other and all that they bring to the relationship. Perhaps Ryder is a little too accepting of Eden’s work? I found some of that a bit hard to swallow, but perhaps he’s just a more understanding and tolerant person than I. But it adds an interesting dynamic to their relationship, it’s all so very functional, and I loved how natural and sensible they are about it all. Their situation isn’t easy, but they care enough about each other to work through it, and the ups and downs of their lives brings a lot of heart to the story.

“When something is worth fighting for, you don’t wait around to figure out logistics. You say yes, you accept the gift you’ve been given, and you figure out the rest later, because life is too damn short to be unhappy.”

They have a lot to figure out – both individually and as a couple, and I couldn’t put this book down as their story played out. The love story is fun, easy, emotional, seriously sexy and beautifully romantic, with an almost Cinderella-ish vibe, and Ryder melted me over and over with his actions, thoughts and swoony declarations. And the additional side characters bring so much to the story, making this a truly special read.

“That’s the thing. Life takes you in unexpected directions. There’s good, and there’s bad to that. Sometimes on a detour, you find what you need in the least likely of places. And then you wonder if that was the direction you were always meant to go.”

Loved this one – 4.5 stars.

P.S. I listened to this as an audiobook, and the much-loved paring of Sebastian York and Andie Arndt is perfection once again as they bring these characters to life.
