Some people carve their initials so deeply into your heart, they’ll always be a part of you.

Brooke works at the Twin Oaks Country Club with her sister while she applies to jobs as an au pair. She’s in her twenties and wants to spend time traveling and living life before she meets “the one.”

James Ashwood is one of the fortunate ones. He owns his own company and does very well for himself. He’s ready to put his casual ways behind him and settle down.

A regular at the country club, James catches the eye of every woman who steps into the place so it’s not surprising that Brooke knows exactly who he is when he calls her over for a drink. There’s a spark there but knowing they want different things out of life would only leave room for heartache. And when feelings creep in that’s exactly what they are in store for.

I really enjoyed The Fortunate Ones. I love that though it’s a lighthearted rom com full of laughs and very little angst, there’s no short supply of emotion. It’s easy to get invested in the characters, both as individuals and as a couple, rooting for a HEA!

Brooke was fun, fresh, and friendly. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. She makes the best out of the situations and works towards her dreams and refuses to let anyone get in her way. James is sweet, sexy, and brilliant at what he does. He can have anyone but he sees Brooke for every wonderful thing she is.

The connection is real and their feelings grow despite trying to stop them. The desire is palpable and the sexual tension sizzles when they are around each other. Once they give into a taste, it’s impossible to shake the intensity between them and I loved it.

Unfortunately, they hit roadblock after roadblock and it seems like there is no way for them to be together. It’s frustrating but very realistic.

There are no maps with warnings of heartbreak ahead, no guideposts to direct you on the path to happiness, just a churning sea of doubt, and with enough time, regret.

I felt the conflict between what they want and what they think they can have. I didn’t want either to compromise their dreams so I was curious to see how it played out. I was desperate to see them get their happy ending and I was not disappointed.
