He’s a player.

He plays the bass with expert fingers. He plays women with intoxicating charm. And he’ll play me with the ease of a virtuoso.

Who better to teach me to play than the master himself?

I’m his model student, front row, pencil sharp. Pick up lines? I’ve got them. Free drinks? By the dozen. Kissing? Let me grab my chapstick.

But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again.

There’s so much I don’t know.

Like the fact that I’m only a bet.

But we are what we are. He’s a player, through and through.

And I’m the fool who fell in love with him.

Review

5 stars!!

“Love is music. It’s learning when to be loud and when to be soft. It’s riding the scales up and down. Learning the curves and strings to play the song of your heart. You have to know when to lead and when to follow. When you’re wrong and when you’re right. Love is music.”

Val plays trumpet for a pit orchestra on Broadway.
From afar she has been crushing hard on the bass player, Sam. She is always clumsy and awkward around him but when her friends push her to ask him out and he accepts, she never would have thought they’d have as much fun as they do. But Sam has a secret, one that can ruin everything, and when the truth comes to light, will there be room for forgiveness or will everything come crashing down?

I loved Player! The creative storyline and amusing characters drew me in and wouldn’t let me go. With the wonderful mix of humor, heart, and heat, it delivers a fun, fresh, entertaining romance that will make you laugh, swoon, and fall in love. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down.

Val and Sam are wonderful characters and each has found a special place in my heart. Val is hilarious. She has a great personality and I loved the things that came out of her mouth. Her pick-up lines had me cracking up and I couldn’t stop the smile from appearing on my face every time she was around. She is authentic and beautiful inside and out but doesn’t see it. She has vulnerabilities and insecurities that make her relatable and I loved watching her open herself up when Sam is in her life. It doesn’t take long before she puts herself out there and I loved it.

My little tube of Heartbreaker had been sitting on top of my dresser long enough that a thin layer of dust coated the embossed cap. But tonight? Tonight called for red lipstick and victory rolls.

Sam! Gah! I loved him! He is so much more than the player the world sees. There is a reason he lives his life the way he does and I understood his fears and reservations. Though his insecurities aren’t quite as out in the open as Val’s they are still very much real and believable. He is genuine, good, and doesn’t want to hurt anyone, and I fell for him hard!

A girl like Val needed a guy she could take home to meet her parents. A guy who’d buy her flowers and binge-watch Jane Austen movies. A guy who’d treat her right.
Like I’d said, I knew what I was and what I wasn’t. And I wasn’t boyfriend material. One-night material? Hundred percent. Weekend material? I was here for that.

Sam and Val’s connection is undeniable and I loved them as a couple. They have amazing chemistry and the sexual tension is off the charts. They really know how to crank up the heat and though it’s hot and heavy when they finally give into the attraction, it’s not all about the steam.  They grow together and share a sweet, laughter filled, heartwarming love. The swoony moments stole my breath and I was giddy watching them fall.

But Sam is in a bind. He has a secret that can break hearts and ruin everything he has built with Val. It’s a situation I actually love in books, desperately wondering how it will be rectified, and I thought it was really well done in this book. Even though I knew what was going to happen when the truth was revealed and was expecting it, it still hurt. It was realistic, emotional, and believable. Thankfully, the pain isn’t drawn out too long and we get to see how much they truly care about each other.

Player is a delightful, refreshing love story that touched my heart and left me with the warm fuzzies.  Add on the swoony, perfect epilogue and I was in heaven.

”There wasn’t a choice to be made, Val. You and I have become a fact.”

I must add that I absolutely adore the girls of the Red Lipstick Coalition!

“We do so solemnly swear to use this shiny little tube of power to inspire braveness, boldness, and courage. We promise to jump when it’s scary, to stand tall when we want to hide, to scream our truth instead of whisper our fears. May we be mistresses of our destinies and to hell with anyone who tries to tell us otherwise.”

Val, Rin, Katherine, and Amelia have an amazing friendship. They are real, honest, and have each other’s backs. They are not afraid to speak their mind but still support one another unconditionally. I loved seeing Rin from Piece of Work again and I cannot wait for more! Work in Progress, Amelia’s story, is releasing January 2019 and there is a sneak peek at the end of Player!

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
