ARC Review: Saint (Mercy, #2) by J.B. Salsbury

Buy:  Amazon Kobo Barnes & Noble

Synopsis

Milo sold his soul to the devil to save an angel.
Now he’s after revenge.

There are worse prisons than the lush estate of a notorious drug smuggler in Mexico. Mercy lives out her days alone and hidden from the world, but her sleep is riddled with nightmares of the muti and all the boys and girls just like her who weren’t lucky enough to get away.

If the people who kept her as a child are in Mexico, is it possible she could find them?

What starts as vigilante justice unravels a web of human trafficking deeper and darker than Milo and Mercy could’ve imagined. When she comes face-to-face with the people she once considered family, she proves she is far from the Angel they raised her to be.

Review

4 stars!

The follow-up to the uniquely beautiful Ghostgirl, this book gives us an exciting, thrilling, and gorgeously romantic ending to Milo and Mercy’s story, recapturing all the feels from the first book and finally bringing closure to their pasts as they fight hard for the life they want together.

“Forever. You and me. Not a single thing on earth will ever come between us.”

Warning that this review will contain some spoilers for Ghostgirl.

The last book ended with Mercy’s life in danger and she and Milo escaped to Mexico to hide her and to give Milo a chance to hunt down the threat to her. For Milo, it means diving into his past, living in the darkness and doing unspeakable things as he searches for answers, while Mercy finds herself pretty much a prisoner once again – protected for sure, but unable to leave and kept in the dark as to exactly what Milo is up to.

I thought protecting her body was enough. I was wrong. In order to her to be free of the visions that torment her, for us to move forward together, I need to help heal her soul. There’s only one way I can do that. She needs retribution. She has to bury the monsters from her past in order for her to find hope in our future.

It’s a slower pace to things as we get reacquainted with these two and what they’re up to, and come to understand the position they are in. Through dual POV we can see both perspectives and the difficulties they are going through, and the emotion of it all is beautifully written.

“Tell me why you’re hiding this part of your life from me. I won’t continue to live like this.”
Now it’s his turn to step back. “What the hell does that mean?”
“It means I’m scared!”
“You’re safe here, you know that. Nothing can hurt you–”
“Except you.”
He flinches as if I’ve slapped him. “I would never hurt you.”
“Losing you would
kill me.”

And in the middle of it all is an absolutely beautiful love story. Intense, passionate and all-consuming, Milo and Mercy’s love for each other has a sense of innocence about it – it’s pure and it’s everything to the both of them, but I loved seeing a bit more maturity to it than I felt in the first book as they are now 100% comfortable with each other, not holding their feelings back and eagerly exploring that at every opportunity… hotness!

“I’ve spent all my life being treated like an expensive toy. All I want is to be treated like a woman who has the love of a man like you.”

They want nothing more than to be together, and their struggle to have that unfolds beautifully within the danger and suspense of the story, and when the unthinkable happens, everything is ramped up and I couldn’t put the book down as it builds to its exciting climax that had me on the edge of my seat and feeling everything!

Her soul is my anchor, and I feed off her touch.
I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, which only intensifies every moment we have left together.

OMG, the feels!!! After a slow start, things certainly pick up in the second half, and I loved watching it all happen. J.B. Salsbury writes with fantastic emotion which brings so much to the story, and it’s a fantastic ride, ending in a great place with an epilogue that finishes everything off beautifully.

I loved this one! 4 stars.
