From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author K. Bromberg comes a new story in her Everyday Heroes series…

Control is something Desi Whitman abhors. Why live life in black and white perfection when you can messily color outside the lines?

But when she comes face to face with SWAT officer Reznor Mayne, he’s about to show her just how good control can feel.

4 stars!

Desi meets Reznor while attending a self-defense class, both having their own reasons for being at there. They start off on the wrong foot and Desi isn’t happy with the hot teacher when he shows her just how vulnerable she is. It doesn’t help that he ends up being her new neighbor and she’s about to see a whole lot of him whether she likes it or not.

Ever since I met Desi in Cuffed I was intrigued by her. She is fun and outgoing but an experience has left her scared and withdrawn. Unable to shake the fear, she’s a bit of a mess and I understood her need for control. She has a hard time giving it up but Rezner proves he is just the one to show her how to do it right.

Reznor, a SWAT leader in San Francisco, finds himself in Sunnyville for some time off after a situation turned deadly. He’s seen things that are nightmarish and I couldn’t imagine living through the things he’s dealt with. I felt the guilt and regret and questions that sit on his shoulder weighing him down. He needs a breathers and isn’t looking for anything when Desi walks into his life and everything changes.

I wasn’t coming to Sunnyville to complicate my life, but damn it to hell, I like her kind of complication.

There is an instant connection between Desi and Reznor. Even when neither want to be in a relationship they allow themselves to escape into each other’s arms. They are a tangle of heat and want, full of electric chemistry and sky high sexual tension.

“Like you told me, you only get one chance to make a first impression…and hell if I don’t plan on impressing the hell out of you, Desi.”

But Desi doesn’t want to lose control and there is a lot of push and pull between her and Rezner. It went on longer than I’d have liked but I loved that Rezner finally proves he is the perfect person for her. He makes her feel safe and shows his vulnerabilities giving her strength to accept her own fears.

“We all have fears, Desi. Even the strongest of us have fears. It’s okay to have one—or many. It doesn’t make you weaker…it makes you human.”

Desi and Rezner are true to themselves and when they go all in it is on their terms. They recognize their own imperfections and accept each other completely. I loved that they realize what it means to love and what that love means to them.

Love isn’t about maintaining control. It’s about ceding control because you know that love offers strength. It’s about one being strong when the other needs to be weak. It’s about balancing each other out.

Overall, Control is a fun, sexy addition to the Everyday Heroes series; and though is a novella, it left me thoroughly satisfied with a happy heart.

About the Author

New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.

She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California.

On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled).
