Blurb

I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew.

Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. As Shakira says, these hips don’t lie.

Still, I like to think I might have pulled the whole thing off save for one thing:

I know my boss.

Last month, we met at a bar, and after a fiery first encounter, it seems we’re destined to be sworn enemies.

Ethan Stone is ruthless and arrogant, a man I never would have crossed had I known how much he likes to toy with his prey.

He should just fire me and be done with it. Instead, he decides to make me his personal slave. Oh right, I think they’re calling it personal “assistant” these days.

It’s torture, all of it—his bad attitude, his ruggedly chiseled face, his desire to grind me into dust.

Every one of our friction-filled battles burns hotter than the last.

A girl can only hold out for so long. Soon, I’m bound to go up in flames.

My objective? Survive the heat long enough to send home a paycheck.
My real objective? Stop having X-rated fantasies about my coldhearted boss.

Review

4.5 stars!

Coldhearted Boss is another rom com hit from R.S. Grey! It’s an enemies-to-lovers/office romance with a second chance thrown in the mix, and I couldn’t put it down. A nice blend of fun and feels, this lighthearted read will make you laugh, swoon, and fall in love.

Taylor Larson is desperate for money so when she hears of work opportunities at the new construction site, she applies even though she has no experience. Sure she’ll be turned away because there’s really no hiding the fact she is a woman even with a disguise, Taylor is pleasantly surprised when she is actually hired. Only, it’s not exactly a good surprise when she finds out her boss is Ethan Stone. She’s met him before and now he doesn’t seem happy.

A month ago Taylor met Ethan at a bar and sparks flew. They nearly hooked up but when they parted ways, it seems they left as enemies. When Ethan sees Taylor again, he knows it’s his chance to make her pay for what she did, and he is determined to make her life miserable.

Taylor and Ethan bring so much to the story. Taylor has a huge heart and will do anything to help pay the bills. She works hard to support her family and their needs and is a strong, determined woman. Ethan is successful and hardworking. He doesn’t like to be duped by anyone and he is ready to make Taylor face the consequences of her actions by being his personal assistant. Only, she’s not exactly what he expected. He wants to understand her, so even though he doesn’t necessary want to be around her, he can’t seem to stay away.

The enemies-to-lovers trope is one of my favorites and Coldhearted Boss fits perfectly into the category. The banter is fanatic and fun and I couldn’t stop the smile from spreading when Taylor and Ethan are together, especially when they are fighting. Ethan won’t back down and Taylor gives as good as she gets. Even though they can’t stand each other, it doesn’t stop the sparks from flying, and they really bring on the heat. From their first encounter to each one that follows, Taylor and Ethan are on fire. Even when he is cold, he warms her up. The sexual tension is off the charts and the more they fight the more intense they become. They quickly find that it’s not all fun and games when emotions get in the way.

I know we’ve pushed each other to our limits and likely crossed every line there is to cross, and yet I don’t feel good about how far we’ve dragged each other through the mud. I didn’t realize how dirty we’d gotten.

Even though they are good at fighting, they are not good at fighting their feelings. Slowly they realize that there is so more to them than what they first thought. It takes a while but when they let their guards down everything starts to change. It’s swoony and perfect. They accept each other for who they are and they were really sweet together.

“I’m fucking exhausted, so no more games. No more pretending I don’t love the way you look in this red bathing suit. No more pretending I don’t hunt for you every time you enter a room. No more pretending your wit and smart mouth aren’t the perfect match for mine.”

The tension, humor, heat, and love between Taylor and Ethan made this story and the lack of angst only added to the feel good nature. Upon reading the last page, I couldn’t contain my giddiness nor keep the smile off my face! Overall, I loved Coldhearted Boss, and can’t wait for more from R.S. Grey!
