Blurb

I’ve spent eight years wishing I’d fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains—every time it’s the same wish: forget about Derek.

But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline.

It’s infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I’m around him, the better. Avoidance is key.

Unfortunately, Derek isn’t going to make it easy. As a teenager, I would have crawled on my hands and knees to attract his attention. Now I can’t seem to escape it.

I’m not sure why he’s bothering. He’s not just out of my league—he’s out of my tax bracket. As the sole heir to the Knightley Company, he’s as close to American royalty as you can get. As for me, I’m just a part-time princess at Knightley’s flagship magical theme park.

I spend my days playing make-believe, but Derek has no use for fairytales. His unwavering confidence makes it clear he thinks I’ll surrender in the end.

He’s just biding his time.

Making me sweat.

His Royal Highness always gets what he wants.

And he wants me.

Review

4.5 fairytale stars!

Whitney plays Princess Elena at Fairytale Kingdom, a wonderland run by Charles “Cal” Knightley. She has worked there for eight years and loves both her job and her mentor who has become like family. When Cal decides to make some changes to the company, she never considered that she would be working side by side with Derek, Cal’s grandson and her first crush. The very crush who broke her heart her eight years ago but to whom she still compares all other crushes.

Whitney is blindsided when Derek returns and I felt the conflicting feelings. She is overwhelmed with feelings from the past and though she doesn’t want to be affected by him, she can’t deny she is still charmed by him.

I don’t know how a soul finds its mate, why it seemed like mine had latched onto someone who was the least logical choice. All I know is it’s been eight years and I’m still not over my silly crush on Derek Knightley.

Whitney isn’t the same eighteen-year-old girl when Derek left, and while she is ready to finally push her feelings away once and for all, Derek sees her in a new light.

I’ve had relationships before and I know what real desire feels like, but this visceral reaction I have toward Whitney is more than that. It draws from a chasm so deep and so wide, it scares me.

Determined to get back to the friendship they once had, she tries to put the past behind them but being just friends turns out to be harder than she thought when Derek is set to play His Royal Highness, aka Princess Elena’s prince!

I loved this story! First crushes, broken hearts, and finally a second chance at love make His Royal Highness a captivating read. I found myself rooting for Whitney and Derek from the beginning, and I couldn’t put the book down until they found their happily-ever-after.

The pacing is perfect and I loved watching their friendship bloom again after the initial heartache. Whitney and Derek have fun together and their witty conversations made me smile. They have great chemistry and an undeniable attraction, and there is a wonderful slow burn feel to the story as the sexual tension grew.

Whitney has had feelings for Derek for years but I loved watching Derek’s feelings develop. He is so swoony and I loved that he didn’t let her slip through his fingers. Their relationship is easy and real, and I loved that they are there for each other especially when they had to face difficult situations. The character development is well written and I loved seeing Whitney and Derek grow individually while facing those challenges together. And together they find a love that is pure magic.

To love is to settle, to feel calmed by a lover’s embrace. It’s why people often define home as a person, not a place.

The conflict from the beginning is resolved maturely, and though there is very little drama in the story, it is big on feels. I loved how the heavier parts were broken up by the lighthearted scenes giving us an emotional yet entertaining romantic comedy. I loved it!!

I can’t forget to give a shout out to Cal because he is fantastic. I adored him and the part he played in the story. He knew just what they needed and loved them unconditionally. And the location?! I loved that it was setting was a theme park. I felt like I was transported to Fairytale Kingdom and could see every amazing detail as clear as day. Such great imagery!
