Happy endings for the win!

4 stars

The Shadows brought us Trez’s story, which just about shattered every BDB fan out there. I still remember the trauma coma that book threw me into. Now, at long last, we finally see him get his happy ending, and I am healed!

Trez has not recovered from the loss of his true love. Still grieving and struggling to move on, everything changes for him when he meets Therese, a waitress at his brother’s restaurant, believing her to be the reincarnation of his beloved shellan.

Therese is a fellow vampire who lost the only family she ever knew and is living an incredibly lonely life. The closest she has to actual contact with somebody are dreams that she has of a fantasy lover, and when she meets Trez she believes she’s found him and he is the male fated to be hers.

Passionate and all-consuming, they throw themselves towards each other, both of them knowing that they have found something special. But is Therese really who Trez thinks she is, or is he too trapped in the past to see what is right in front of him? It’s a really interesting storyline, and I loved watching it all play out.

I love these characters, and I love how they throw themselves into what they are feeling for each other. The romance is gorgeous with lots of heart, and I really liked that Therese is respected through it, and not just seen as a replacement for Selena. She has her own journey through this story, and though I thought her actions towards her family were a bit OTT, it all ties together well to create a great story that is dramatic, romantic and exciting, and I loved it.

(It has to be said though, as much as I love a happy ending, all of these second chances make me feel even more heartbroken for Tohr and Wellsie. I guess I just need to get over that though. This is romance-land, and a happy ending is a happy ending).

We get to see some of the other BDB cast, which is always a treat, and Lassiter for the win because that whole scene at the end was freaking gold!

I finished this one with a big smile on my face.

4 stars.
