Blurb

Scarlett Lattimore arrives at Lilith House, an abandoned mansion built in 1876, that later housed a reform school for troubled girls, to start a new life with her seven-year-old daughter.

But between the nearby town with the strange, disconcerting feel, the deputy sheriff who is equal parts intriguing and suspicious, and the discovery that their new home holds a dark and violent past, Scarlett soon begins to question her rash decision.

She is shaken and afraid by the screams that echo in the walls and the drumbeat that arises from the surrounding woods where the ghost of an indigenous man is said to roam, seeking vengeance. Her fear is also personal, because Scarlett knew one of the girls who attended the school, a friend who escaped into those woods and was never seen again. They all thought she was a rebellious runaway who later encountered foul play, but perhaps the truth is far more sinister.

As Scarlett’s extraordinary daughter Haddie becomes consumed by the eerie figure who weaves and beckons through the forest fog, and a legacy of secrets reveal themselves, it becomes clear both Scarlett and Haddie are in grave danger. When the past intersects with the present, they will come face to face with the true evil of Lilith House. An evil that has lasted for more than a century.

Review

5 forever stars!

I love when an author tries something new and absolutely nails it. Mia Sheridan took a chance with Fallen and she did not disappoint. It is a mystery/suspense with a slow burn romance and paranormal elements added in. It’s a wonderfully crafted, nerve-racking, nail-biting kind of read that is unputdownable and definitely earns a place on my favorites shelf.

I was consumed by the story and the characters within in, and loved everything about it. The pacing, development, emotion, and imagination brought the story to life. The complexity is genius. It’s amazing how every little detail has its place making the story unfold in a mesmerizing way. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what happened in the past and what is happening in the present. I loved that it flips back and forth and we see two stories play out while ultimately intertwining in the most surprising of ways.

The story is emotional and my heart broke as I got deeper into the story. I wanted to cry as we learn more about the history of Lilith House and the horror that lived within its walls. The mystery/suspense is on point. The twists and turns are jaw dropping and I was desperate to find how everything intersects. I had no idea what to think as the story progressed but I was invested in the characters and the roles they played. From the good guys to the bad guys, each character was well developed and vital to the story.

Haddie is an amazing and fascinating little girl. She sees the world in a different way and I loved learning about what makes her special. Scarlett was such a wonderful mother. She loved fiercely and would do anything for Haddie. I loved that she finds the good in people even when the don’t always see it in themselves. Camden has a heartbreaking past and I loved uncovering his truth.

Overall, Fallen effortlessly blends mystery, legend, suspense, and horror but gives us a beautiful romance to lighten the dark, and I loved it! A new 2020 favorite!!
