About King of the Court

We don’t get a lot of NBA superstars coming through little ol’ Pine Hill, Texas. That’s why everyone is all in a tizzy over the fact that the USA men’s Olympic basketball team will be training here of all places before this year’s Summer Games. With little else to talk about, rumors about the players have been spreading like wildfire, and there’s one man in the middle of it all holding a match.

Ben Castillo.
NBA champion.
Olympic gold medalist.
Widely hailed ‘King of the Court’.

The morning he walks into my dingy diner, I have enough sense to keep my head down and go right on wiping tables, pouring coffee, and serving up short stacks. A man who looks like that—superstar or not—has only ever meant trouble, and more trouble is the last thing I need, what with taking care of Nan and scraping by on tips from truckers.

If anything, he seems drawn to my indifference. His steely gaze pierces me behind the counter. My knees nearly buckle under the weight of his attention. But while Mr. Pretty Boy is probably used to snagging city girls with a smile, this gal is country strong.

I won’t be some clichéd convenience for him on his way through town.
So look over your choices carefully, Benny-boy. We serve up sides of hash browns here, not heartbreak.

Review

4 stars!

After leading LA to another winning season, Ben Castillo is headed to Pine Hill, a small town in Texas to train for the Olympics. Raelynn is working two jobs to make ends meet when the US Men’s Basketball Olympic team shows up. When Raelynn and Ben meet they seem worlds apart but there is something about Raelynn that intrigues Ben and he can’t get her out of his head.

Every single thought seems to hinge on how it’s possible that this girl, out of every girl I’ve seen in the last few months, is the one who could bring me back to life.

Raelynn and Ben are immediately attracted to one another and though they try to stay away from each other, it doesn’t last long. Ben is over the drama that comes with being a sports celebrity and it’s refreshing that Raelynn isn’t interested in his fame and money. He enjoys her company and truly wants to get to know her. Raelynn understands that Ben is just passing through but she still gives him a chance.

There is just something about the two of them that clicks. They give as good as they get and know how to have fun. When they take a chance and see where their attraction can lead, they really turn up the heat. Just as things start becoming serious there is a major roadblock in the way that pulls them apart.

More than a year later they bump into each other again and the connection is still there. They are at different places in their lives, but this second chance may be the answer to their happily ever after.

This is such a sweet story. Raelynn and Ben live in two different worlds, but they are genuinely wonderful people with huge hearts. The banter is great and it cranks up the sexual tension until they can’t stop the sparks from igniting.

Sometimes life and responsibilities get in the way and my heart broke for Ben and Raelynn. Their journey is realistic, and I loved that there wasn’t any unnecessary drama. I believed the story and how it played out. I knew they would be fantastic together and I thought the second chance romance was well developed. Overall, I loved it.
