Book #5 in the Deep Ops series, this is another exciting, suspenseful read with action, mystery, and a gorgeously sweet and sexy single-parent romance. It’s an engaging read from start to finish, and I loved it.

Jethro Hanson is a philosophy professor who has previously worked with the Deep Ops team. But behind his intelligence, good looks and studious appearance is a man with big secrets – he is an ex spy with a dark history and a lot of blood on his hands, and it looks like his past has come back to haunt him.

Gemma Falls is new to town and has begun teaching at the same University as Jethro, and she’s hiding even more secrets than he is. On the run with her three year old daughter she has reinvented herself again and again to escape a violent ex, and she keeps her life as private as possible. So when the handsome professor on campus starts to show an interest, she does her best to keep her distance. But Jethro is stubborn and determinedly helpful, and he recognises the signs of a woman in trouble.

Danger is coming from all angles, and with the Deep Ops crew claiming Jethro as one of their own, everybody is on board to help – even if he does his best to keep them out of it. He knows just how dangerous the threat against him is, and doesn’t want to expose anybody to it, not his friends, and especially not Gemma. But as the threat level increases, he steps in to protect her, and his friends step in to protect them both. And when they finally start working together to keep each other, and Gemma’s little girl, Trudy, safe, they begin to open up to each other, their friendship deepens, and their mad attraction other becomes a passionate romance.

It’s a gorgeous love story that is easy, emotional and super sexy, but just as Jethro opens his heart to somebody for the first time, he is facing the unthinkable. He has the skills to defend himself and the people he loves, even if it means becoming the man that he left behind. But the chance of love, family and a fresh start prove to be worth it all.

It’s a fast-moving story with lots going on, and despite all of the intensity, Zanetti manages to bring moments of lightness and fun to the story with the inclusion of the fabulous Deep Ops team. OMG, I loved being back with these characters! Wolfe, as always, made me laugh and stole my heart as Jethro’s self-declared best friend. And as they all rally around Jethro, Gemma, and little Trudy, I loved seeing their wonderful dynamics as they all bounce off each other and show themselves to be the intelligent, witty, give-no-f*cks badasses that they are! And with glimpses of new characters, and hints of stories to come, I’m hoping that this series continues for a long time yet.

I really enjoyed this book, which has all of the excitement, intensity, romance and laughs that I was hoping for.

4 stars!
