ARC Review: Indescribable (Lake Family, #1) by Jennifer Van Wyk

Indescribable by Jennifer Van Wyk is live!

The first book in a brand new small-town series, this best-friends-to-lovers romance, is funny, sweet, sexy and fun, and I loved it.

I walked down the aisle and said “I do” to the wrong man.
Unfortunately, it took me eight years to figure it out.
It took me even longer to realize who was in front of me the entire time.
You’d think that being a romance author would have helped me to see the signs that I chose wrong the first time and I would have been able to write my own happily-ever-after so easily.
But like so many of the books I read and write, it took something dramatic to happen before I opened my eyes and saw Brock as the man he’s been to me my entire life.
I get a second chance to do this love thing right and I won’t mess it up again.

She asked me to walk her down the aisle but how could I do that when I knew the end result would be her saying “I do” to the wrong man? Or, at least, the man who wasn’t… me.
It didn’t take some big epiphany for me to suddenly realize I had feelings for her.
They were just… there. Always.
I missed my chance because I was a young coward.
But that was then. I’m no longer a scared teenager. I’m a man who knows who and what I want.
I’m not going to make the same mistake again or ignore the second chance I’ve been given.
Naomi’s about to see who held my heart all these years.
Because the pain of watching her build a life with another man was almost more than I could handle.
But loving her and having the chance to show her true love? Well, it’s indescribable.

4 stars!

This is such a sweet read! A best-friends-to-lovers small town romance, it’s funny, sweet, sexy and fun, and I loved it.

I fell in love with the prequel novella to this series, Serendipity, which is the second-chance-at-love story of newly divorced Leah, and family friend, Stone. In that novella we also meet Leah’s teenage children, well now they’re all grown up and getting stories of their own, starting with Leah’s youngest son, Brock, and his childhood best friend and soulmate, Naomi.

Brock’s heart broke the day he watched his best friend, and the love of his life, Naomi, walk down the aisle to marry her high school boyfriend. He knew she was marrying the wrong guy, but he never took his shot when he could have, and now he doesn’t want to ruin her happiness. Over the years, the once-close friends drifted apart – mostly because of Naomi’s husband’s insecurities – but when Naomi finally divorces her cheating husband and wakes up to how much happier life is without him, her old best friend is there for her just like he always was.

“Doesn’t matter that you and I haven’t been as close these last few years as we used to be … You’re still my girl.”

Brock knows that this is his chance to finally win the woman of his dreams. He’s not an idiot, and he knows he needs to bide his time, and he’s prepared to wait as long as it takes, but he has no intention of letting Naomi slip away again.

“Hey.” I give her hand a squeeze.
“I’m having a hard time grasping this, I guess.”
“Grasp onto it and hold it tight, sweetheart. I’m not going anywhere.”

This is such a sweet romance. Brock and Naomi are so meant to be – he knows it, his family knows it, the whole damn town knows it, and now that he’s back in her life, Naomi is starting to realise it too. The love story unfolds easily and naturally, and I was so damn excited to see Brock finally get his chance to tell Naomi how he feels, watch them completely open their hearts to each other, and see him finally get the woman he has always wanted. There’s no messing about, no game playing, they’re open and honest, they dive right in, and the shift from friends to more is absolutely effortless.

“It wasn’t our time then. Now it’s our time, if you’ll have me. I’m all in.”

Sweet, sexy and playful, these two are so freaking gorgeous together, I just loved them.

I lean over and kiss him soundly on the lips. “Take me to bed or lose me forever, Brock.”
“Did you just
Top Gun me?”
“Damn skippy.”
“You’re the best,” he says, grinning.

There’s also a really well written emotional element to their story. Naomi’s marriage was emotionally abusive – though she didn’t realise it at the time, just little things here and there which escalated and she didn’t even notice it. It’s a beautiful journey watching her find her way back to herself and find the life and love that she deserves.

And Brock… swoon! Wow, what a man. He’s a good guy with a huge heart, funny, kind and caring, and he holds nothing back from Naomi, and I just adored him.

“I won’t apologize for loving you. Now or then or forever.”

Alongside Brock and Naomi’s romance, we get to meet his family and key people in the town that will most likely feature in the series. Van Wyk writes fantastic family dynamics, and I loved getting to know Brock’s siblings more. His relationship with his brothers is awesome, his older sister, who is also great friends with Naomi, is great, and his young nephew is a highly entertaining scene stealer. They’re a great bunch, and I can’t wait for them to get their own stories.

This is such a cute read. Another fantastic small-town romance from Jennifer Van Wyk that stole my heart, and I loved it!

4 stars.

About the Author

From the Ground Up was Jennifer’s first published novel and now that she was bitten by the writing bug, has no intention of ever stopping. Jennifer makes her home in small town Iowa with her high school sweetheart, three beautiful, hilarious and amazing kids, one crazy Jack Russell terrier. This is where her love for all things reading, baking, and cooking happen.  Jennifer’s family enjoys camping, boating, and spending time outside as much as possible. You’ll be her best friend if you can make her laugh and follow up with asking her what to read next. When she’s not writing, you can find her cheering the loudest at her kids’ sporting events (read as: embarrassing them), sipping coffee or iced tea out of a mason jar with her Kindle in her lap or binging on Netflix.

    1. The author announced a couple of weeks ago that Cash and Hadley’s book, Effortless, is coming in October. No set date yet, but it’s not long now! 😀
