4.5 stars!

Foretold is the first book in the new St. Bastian Institute series, a spin-off of the Blood Magic series, and it did not disappoint. It’s a star-crossed lovers story between Dayra, the daughter of Tegan and Ethan Cristescu from Blood Magic , and warlock Peter Girard, great-nephew of Marcel Girard who was the enemy of Tegan and Ethan. To say there is bad blood between the Cristescu and Girard family is an understatement but when Darya needs Peter’s help with a spell, they find a connection neither was expecting.

It is so good to be back in Cosway’s paranormal world filled with vampires, witches, warlocks, demons, spells, magic, and more. Darya and Peter attend St. Bastian’s Institute for Magic and the Supernatural. Darya is a dhampir, half human/half vampire and isn’t great at magic. Peter, however, is very gifted and when a teacher is murdered at the school, Darya needs Peter’s help to try to figure out the killer. The spell doesn’t go as planned and Darya and Peter are linked. Not only that but Darya it seems has been marked by a demon. Can Darya and Peter find the killer and the demon while navigating high school with all the drama that comes with being a teen?

Darya and Peter have a lot on their plates but this story is just the beginning. There’s magic, mayhem, and murder, and I was sucked in immediately. I loved the way they are tested and the connection they have that keeps them together. Peter is so protective of Darya and it just made me giddy when he’s around her. I love the friendship they form and the developing feelings that take root as they spend time together.

Even though the story is told from Darya’s POV, we get to see some of the things Peter is thinking through their connection. I really liked the telepathy they share and thought it was an interesting twist. I also liked the mystery and magic as well as the action that Darya and Peter face. And I can’t forget the secondary characters, nor Tegan and Ethan. I loved getting more of them and enjoyed seeing the fierce love they have for Darya as well as the openness they have for Peter.

I really enjoyed the way the story unfolds but the ending definitely leaves things open for so much more. I can’t wait to see what is in store for Darya and Peter, and I won’t lie, I’m a little nervous about the demon that marked Darya and his part in the coming books.

I will note that though it is not necessary to read the Blood Magic series first in order to enjoy this book, I do recommend reading it before because it gave me more background to this new series.
