I never saw him coming.

I didn’t know what would happen after my client found me sleeping in my car.
I’d been cleaning his house as his wife was dying.
I didn’t expect them to invite me to live with them.
I didn’t expect Suzie to become my lifeline—until she was gone.

I didn’t expect him to ask me to marry him when he found out I needed medical insurance.

I didn’t expect to fall in love with a grieving man.

There are so many reasons to keep my distance from Zach. Every tender moment secreted away.

When we’re not together, I miss the man I call husband.
Does he miss his wife? If so, which one?

Review

5 phenomenal stars!

Jewel E. Ann has done it again. She has written an unconventional love story that makes you really think about life, love, and the people who forever find a place in your heart. I loved it and it easily joins my favorite list.

Zach Hayes and his wife, Suzie, hire Emersyn to take over the house cleaning so Zach can spend more time with Suzie, who is dying of cancer. What starts out as a simple job becomes so much more when three lives intertwine and are forever changed in ways we couldn’t imagine.

This book is phenomenal. It takes you on an emotional journey through the ups and downs of life and the turns you never see coming. Emersyn changes everything when she starts working for the Hayes’s. She and Suzie become wonderful friends and Emersyn is just what she needs at the end of her life. I loved the way Suzie looked at things in a different way, especially when it came to love.

“Love is fluid…
Soulmates are not S O L E mates. Without one, we are not alone. Many souls feed our own. Humans are interchangeable puzzle pieces; we fit into more than one space. I fit with Tara. And I fit with Zach. I’ve never had children. Still, I imagine it’s how a mother can love all her children equally, even if differently. I don’t love Zach more or less than I loved Tara. I love him differently.”

Zach adores his wife and is heartbroken when she dies. He doesn’t know who he is without her. Her dying wish was to change a life and Emersyn is the one he chooses. By marrying her, he will give her the healthcare benefits she needs while remaining just friends.

This friendship was already blooming when Suzie was still alive but now they form an even stronger bond. Over the months they share their lives and their friendship grows. She is off doing what she loves and he is just getting by but they end up being just what the other need at different times.

It takes a while before they actually find the right time for them to be more than just friends. They go through rough patches when figuring out what they are to each other and what their feelings mean. It is definitely heartbreaking at times and I found myself unable to stop reading just so I could make it to the point where my heart healed. And when it does, all the pain is worth it because these two love big!

Overall, it’s gorgeous slow burn romance. It happens organically and though it wasn’t always and easy read, it is so good!

A NEW 2023 FAVE!!
