The latest BDB book brings us the story of Balthazar. Things have been building up for him for a while – he’s possessed by a sexy, manipulative demon, and he’s falling for a human detective – and I loved this book.

Balthazar is searching desperately for a mysterious spell book which will rid him of the demon Devina once and for all. She is also searching for the book so that she can conjure her one true love, and in the meantime, she is happy to mess with Balthazar as much as she can. Homicide Detective, Erika, has encountered Balthazar before, though she can’t remember it, and she’s struggling to deal with gaps in her memory and the debilitating headaches that come when she tries to remember.

When the three collide, it will shift everything between Balthazar and Erika, as they discover an emotional connection that rocks them both, and her eyes are opened to the truth about Caldwell and the beings who inhabit it. It’s a gorgeous love story, which is full of emotion (and a nice amount of sexy time), and I love watching these two come together.

And Devina’s search for love opens the door for a new (old) enemy of the Brothers who will change things forever.

There are big changes in the BDB world, and I’m excited to see how that is all going to play out. We get to see the whole Brotherhood as it all unfolds – there are a few chapters from V’s POV (which I always love), but we get glimpses of the whole crew as they come out to take Balthazar’s back. And with all of those developments, and with our favourite flamboyant angel also experiencing some pretty big twists, the stage is set for Lassiter’s long-awaited book, coming up next, and I am busting to get my hands on it!

4 stars.
