Release & ARC Review: On the Shore (Cottonwood Cove, #3) by Laura Pavlov

On the Shore by Laura Pavlov is live!

An enemies-to-lovers sports romance that is funny, sexy, and so freaking swoony! Featuring a snarky heroine and a superstar NFL quarterback who falls head over heels, I was so wrapped up in this story and I loved every moment of it!

He’s the GOAT of the NFL. She’s a hot-headed reporter who despises him. They’re in the same small town for the summer. What could possibly go wrong?

I’m more than aware of the responsibilities that come with being a quarterback in the NFL.
The upside—I get to do what I love every day, which is play football.
And I make more money than I know what to do with.
The downside—everyone wants a piece of me, and the press stalks me ruthlessly.
And one reporter in particular, Brinkley Reynolds, has crossed a line.
She takes things too far.
So yeah, I have her escorted out of the press conference.
Imagine my surprise when the same woman walks into the coffee shop in the small town where I’ve gone to get some privacy for the summer.
I accuse her of stalking me.
She calls me every name in the book before proceeding to make me feel very unwelcome in Cottonwood Cove.
Her hometown.
The place where she tucked tail and ran after I’d unknowingly gotten her fired.
So now I’m enemy number one.
That’s fine with me.
I’m not the biggest fan of her either.
She’s equal parts stubborn and aggravating.
But she happens to be the sexiest woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.
So I try to make amends.
I’m not the devil after all.
But she won’t give me the time of day unless I agree to give her my story.
One I’ve fought hard to protect since the day I started playing professional ball.
I don’t owe Brinkley Reynolds anything.
So why am I considering giving her everything?

Review

4.5 stars!

The third book in the Cottonwood Cove series, this is an enemies-to-lovers sports romance that is funny, sexy, and so freaking swoony! Featuring a snarky heroine and a superstar NFL quarterback who falls head over heels, I was so wrapped up in this story and I loved every moment of it!

Brinkley is one of the Reynolds siblings featured in this series, and she’s returned to her beloved family and her small home town after being fired from her job as a sports reporter. She blames her situation on an unfortunate altercation with the GOAT of the NFL, Lincoln Hendrix, who had her thrown out of a press conference, and while she’s at home seething with anger and refusing to allow her family to even mention the name of their favourite football player, she’s looking for ways to rebuild her career. And then Lincoln rocks up in town.

Lincoln is coming off a Superbowl win and has escaped to a small country town for the summer. He’s sick of the constant harassment by the press, and wants peace and quiet for the next few months. But wouldn’t you know it, he runs into the very reporter who trailed him into the men’s room, who he now thinks has stalked him to his summer getaway. But a very irate Brinkley quickly sets him straight.

“For the record, I’m not going anywhere. I grew up here, you arrogant prick. So, if you don’t want to see me, I suggest you hightail it out of town. Because in Cottonwood Cove, the Reynolds’ are a bigger deal than you are, hotshot.”

Lincoln has no idea that he was indirectly responsible for imploding Brinkley’s career, so he gets why she’s so pissed off with him. But there’s something about the beautiful bombshell that he cannot stop thinking about, and he wants to make amends. So he gives her the one thing the press has been salivating for – the opportunity to tell his story, including the explosive news of his future plans. Knowing that this is the chance of a lifetime, Brinkley accepts, forcing her to get up close and personal with her nemesis.

She was the most aggravating woman I’d ever met, yet I enjoyed bickering with her more than I enjoyed talking to anyone else.

God, I love the dynamic between these two! Brinkley genuinely hates Lincoln, but he’s captivated by the feisty woman. They argue and snark at each other, and I love the way they bicker back and forth!

“You were being a brat.” …
“Says the most difficult man on the planet.” She raised a brow.
“Thank you, sweetheart. I strive to be the best. That means a lot to me.” I loved fucking with her.

As Lincoln slowly (oh, so slowly) tells Brinkley his story, they’re getting to know each other, and their attraction to each other grows. It’s feisty and full of sexual tension, and as they get sucked into each other’s lives, they develop real feelings for each other. But while Brinkley is happy to just explore their mad lust, Lincoln wants more, knowing that one night together will never be enough. So we get the most amazing set-up where the grumpy football player falls hard and pulls out all of the stops to get his girl.

“I don’t want you in my bed for one night, Brinkley Reynolds. It won’t be enough for me.”

It’s fun, sweet, flirty and heartfelt, and I was both giggling and swooning at Lincoln’s blatant attempts to win Brinkley’s heart. He’s so open with how he’s feeling and what he wants, and it’s beautifully refreshing and so damn swoony!

“If I’m with someone, the way I want to be with you – I won’t hide that. I’d want everyone to know that you’re mine.”

The emotion is beautifully written, and I loved watching these two come together. They have a lot to figure out when it comes to their lives and their future – both individually and together – and I loved watching them work through it and find their happy ending.

“I’ve never felt like this. And it terrifies me.”
“I’ve got you, Brinkley Reynolds.”

Along the way, we get to spend a lot of time with Brinkley’s fabulous family. Family dinner is hilariously entertaining, and the sibling text chain is just gold. I love these characters, and when they’re together, they absolutely shine! Bring on Finn’s books next!

This is such a fun read with great characters, a gorgeous romance, and very low angst, yet it still made my heart pound, and I finished it with a big smile on my face.

I loved it! 4.5 stars!
