Wow, what an amazing read! A dramatic and emotional love story between the widow of a rockstar, and the paramedic who treated her husband as he died. This book sucked me in and kept me captivated from start to finish, it’s beautifully written, and I loved it so much.

Logan is an LA paramedic who is struggling with guilt after America’s biggest rockstar died on his watch. Trying to make amends, he watches his wife from afar, wanting to make sure she and her little girl are coping ok.

Hannah’s life turned upside down after her husband’s death. She and her little girl are both grieving, but she’s forced to do it in view of the public and intrusive paparazzi. And worse, nobody knows that she had separated her husband just before his death, which further complicates her feelings.

A grieving wife was only supposed to mourn her famous husband’s death in one way for it to be deemed acceptable:
With absolute, unfixable, wailing to the skies heartbreak.
For me, it was a little more complicated.

When she hits rock bottom, Logan is there to help her during and after her meltdown, and they develop a sort-of-friendship when he promises to be there for her if she needs anything.

“Everyone you meet is a risk, but maybe I’m the guy who accidentally came into your life to help you breathe easier for a while. It doesn’t have to be forever, Hannah. It just has to be now.”

“Whatever you need from me, it’s yours.”

Slowly and realistically, Logan becomes Hannah’s person, the one she goes to when she’s sad or overwhelmed, when she needs help or a shoulder to cry on. And as their friendship develops, they fall for each other in the most beautiful slow burn.

This was love, even if only one of us felt it, and as I sank into that kiss with her, she became pure heaven against my lips in a world where everything else had always felt like hell.

The feelings are there, but their grief is complicated, and Logan knows that his secret will end whatever is happening between them. It’s a journey, and it plays out beautifully, with drama, emotion, realistic and well-handled angst, and I couldn’t get enough!

“I’m willing to take this as slowly as you need to,” I ran my hand through her hair. “As long as this is what you want. That’s all that matters to me. That you forgive me for my past mistakes and that you trust me to protect our future.”

Both Hannah and Logan have a lot to work through in this book as they deal with their grief, and issues from their past, and find a way to keep going and claim the happiness that they so desperately want. It’s a difficult road, but it’s realistic, and they handle it so brilliantly, healing, growing, and fighting for their HEA, and I loved watching them find it.

“Some people do know what they want forever, and I want that…with you.”

I loved this book. It’s beautifully written, I loved Logan and Hannah, and I was so completely swept up in their gorgeous story. This is my first read by Vicki James, and I’m looking forward to reading more of her work.

Such a great read – 5 stars!
