Release & ARC Review: Loving Romeo (Magnolia Falls, #1) by Laura Pavlov

Loving Romeo by Laura Pavlov is live!

The first book in Laura Pavlov’s Magnolia Falls series, this is an emotional and dramatic grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, sort-of-enemies-to-lovers romance with the most beautifully swoony love story. It’s heartfelt and romantic, angst-free with just the right amount of drama, and it’s a gorgeous read. I loved it!

Demi Crawford was Magnolia Falls royalty.

I was the boxer from the wrong side of the tracks.

She was the epitome of everything good, while I was broody and rebellious.

We couldn’t be more different.

Her family was enemy number one which made her guilty by association.

I despised her before I even knew her.

It was easier that way.

But now she’d moved in next door to me, and she was everywhere I turned.

I couldn’t avoid her no matter how hard I tried.

She was beautiful and honest and sweet.

Everything I knew I shouldn’t want.

Shouldn’t need.

They say there’s a fine line between love and hate—and I don’t know when I crossed over.

I was so wrapped up in this girl I couldn’t see straight.

She was the right hook I never saw coming.

Hating her was supposed to be my end game.

Loving her… well, that was just the beginning.

But the secrets that lived between us threatened to tear us apart.

Lucky for her—I was a born fighter.

And she was definitely worth the fight.

This series is set around five best friends who grew up in the small town of Magnolia Falls. From the poorer side of town, the boys faced challenges growing up, and Romeo Knight suffered badly when he was sent to juvenile detention for a crime he did not commit. Now, he’s an ex-boxer who owns the local fighting gym, and he is broody and pretty much keeps to himself, with the exception of his best buds.

Demi has returned to her home town of Magnolia Falls to open her own coffee shop. Her family are wealthy and influential, and she’s a bit of a golden girl – sweet, successful, never one to cause trouble. But it just so happens that it’s her family who is responsible for Romeo’s incarceration. So when she opens her store right next door to Romeo’s gym, he is not happy to have her as his neighbour. He doesn’t hide his anger and irritation, and despite her sweet and welcoming nature, and their immediate (and completely inconvenient) physical attraction, they don’t get off to a good start.

“Romeo Knight can fuck off. I’ve never judge him. He doesn’t have a clue about my life. We’ve never even spoken before today. He’d made his mind up about me before he walked through the door.”
“You are so right. He’s an asshole. But damn, he is a good-looking asshole, am I right?”

But after repeated run ins and some fabulously snarky banter, and things suddenly shift. They begin to see past all of the superficial stuff and really get to know each other and they fall hard, fast, and completely.

“How, exactly, do you think about me? As your enemy?”
He signed like he was completely frustrated that I was making him spell it out for me. “Most of the time, I think about you naked. I think about the way you’d taste. The way you’d respond when I touched you. The way your lips would feel against mine. The way you’d look when you came for me.”
Hello Romeo Knight.
The Golden Boy had entered the arena.
And I…
Was.
Here for it.

It’s intense, passionate and all-consuming for both of them, and I was on board for all of it! I was completely wrapped up in their love story, and loved watching them come together and find something so special together. Their love for each other just shines off the page.

But their family dramas, secrets and past betrayals are complicating what they’re trying to build together, at the same time that Romeo has been called out to fight professionally again. All of it threatens the future they want together, and it’s an intense and exciting ride as the new couple is put to the test in ways they never expected. Watching them love each other and stand beside each other through it all is just gorgeous.

Laura Pavlov writes the most fabulous family/friend dynamics and Romeo and his buddies are absolutely fantastic together. A true brotherhood, they are as close as family, and I love their banter, their group texts, their teasing and unwavering support for each other. The addition of Beefcake is just genius.

Ride or die. Brothers till the end. Loyalty always. Forever my friend.

This is a great start to the Magnolia Falls series, and I can’t wait to get to know these characters more and explore more of this world.

A gorgeous read – 4 stars.
