Release & ARC Review: Through the Glen (Highlands Series, #3) by Samantha Young

Through the Glen by Samantha Young is live!

This is a beautifully romantic read! An emotional and heartfelt character-driven romance between a cynical English playboy and a quiet, shy Scot. It’s dramatic, sweet, and so freaking sexy, I was totally consumed by this story and I absolutely loved it.

He’s a cynical, world-weary Londoner. She’s a shy Scot. They might seem like opposites, but a few weeks in the Highlands will bring them together in ways they can’t imagine…

Theo Cavendish is the second son of a British viscount, and he’s spent years running from the aristocratic world he grew up in. Betrayal and loss taught him lessons he’s not quick to forget. As an award-winning screenwriter and creator, Theo prefers to throw himself into the world of film and television. He moves from one project to another, never really letting anyone truly know him.

As a housekeeper at the exclusive Ardnoch Estate, shy Sarah McCulloch feels invisible most days. No one really knows her, and they definitely don’t know she’s a bestselling crime writer. She dreams of seeing her series on screen and believes only one person can develop it for television. On the day she quits the estate for good, she shares her secret with club member, Theo, and asks him to consider her books.

Sarah never expected him to say yes or to show up on her doorstep ready to write with her. Or that weeks spent locked up in her cottage would lead them to form an intense but undeniable connection. A bond that Theo is not sure he’s ready to accept, even though he can’t bear to be without her.

However, when they finally venture out of their bubble, Theo finds he’ll have to battle more than his own demons to protect Sarah from hurt. For he’s got another fan, one intent on bringing the darkest elements of his most famous script to life. And unless he can figure out this real-life antagonist’s next move, Theo could be in danger of losing Sarah forever.

5 beautifully romantic stars!

Samantha Young has taken us back to the Scottish Highlands with the most beautiful love story! An emotional and heartfelt character-driven romance between a cynical English playboy and a quiet, shy Scot. It’s dramatic, sweet, and so freaking sexy, I was totally consumed by this story and I absolutely loved it.

Theo Cavendish was introduced in the last book in the series, where he stole every scene he was in. A screenwriter and director, he’s from the British aristocracy, but wants nothing to do with his family, and his past has left him bitter and jaded towards relationships. So he lives for the moment and never really anybody get too close.

Sarah is one of the housekeepers at Ardnoch Castle, secretly hiding the fact that she’s the bestselling author of a series of crime novels. She’s reached the point where she can quit her job and focus purely on her writing, and with her series in talks for a TV series, she asks Theo to help her adapt her work. He turns her down, only to unexpectedly show up at her small cottage in the Highlands to work with her, putting the two of them up close and personal in a fabulous close proximity situation that is full of chemistry and a building attraction.

As they work together, they grow close, they show their vulnerabilities and reveal things about themselves that nobody else knows. They become close, and they naturally fall into a fun, affectionate, and steamy relationship.

“It was fucking glorious, and you know it was. My cock hasn’t stayed hard that long since I was thirteen. I deserve awards for what happened here today.”

They don’t talk about it, they don’t define it, they just let it happen and allow it to consume them, and I was completely swept up in it with them.

It was never enough, I realized with something akin to despair. I didn’t think there would ever come a time when I’d had enough of this woman.

I love these two together! Theo’s confidence and sarcasm is so entertaining, but he shows a softer side with Sarah which is completely irresistible. And Sarah comes out of her shell and we get to see a new, stronger, more confident woman who had me cheering on multiple occasions. They complement each other perfectly, and are fabulous together – they laugh, tease and banter, the sexy time is sizzling, and the emotion is intense as they fall so hard for each other.

“Sarah, you matter,” he insisted urgently … “You matter more than anybody.

Neither of them were expecting (or even wanting) a relationship, and they have some personal challenges to overcome in order to actually be together. It’s not an easy road for them, but it’s realistic to the story and shows the strength of their connection and their personal growth as they work through it all. It’s handled so well, and I felt it all, revelling in watching them fall in love so completely.

He bowed his head against my forehead. “I…I love you, Sarah. I’m so in love with you, I can hardly bear it.”

As with the other books in the series, there is a mystery/suspense element to the story and honestly, I didn’t think it was necessary. It’s secondary to the love story and doesn’t really contribute much, I just wanted it over so I could get back to the romance (sap that I am). But it didn’t diminish my love of the story in any way.

We get to see characters from previous books (with a hint of the next book to come), but this one can easily standalone.

I loved this story so, so much.

5 stars.
