Release & ARC Review: Blitz (Treasure State Wildcats, #2) by Devney Perry

Blitz by Devney Perry is live!

Oh my heart, what a story! A beautifully emotional, forbidden teacher/student romance that had me feeling so much. I loved these characters, I loved their story, and I was completely swept up in this beautiful story.

Blurb

forbidden, small town, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry.

A coach. A student. The rules were concrete. We broke them anyway.

The night I met Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lie. He was a Treasure State football coach. I was the star of the volleyball team. Coaches and students were forbidden. My future was on the line, so I told myself it was only one night.

That was the first lie. They got easier to tell after that. The lines blurred. The boundaries shifted. Our relationship became a game of its own.

A chaste smile. A knowing glance. A veiled touch or a hushed kiss. We hid in plain sight. We were invincible. Or so we thought. Neither of us saw the blitz coming until it was too late.

Game over. The night I left Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lose.

5 stars!

Oh my heart, what a story! A beautifully emotional, forbidden teacher/student romance that had me feeling so much. I loved these characters, I loved their story, and I was completely swept up in this beautiful story.

This is the second book in the Treasure State Wildcats series, and it takes place within the same timeline as the first book of the series, [book:Coach|63288993], and beyond. Though there is character crossover (Toren is a friend and colleague of Ford and Millie from the first book), you could read this one as a standalone – though Coach is a fantastic book, so don’t miss out on that one!

Toren and Jennsyn meet at a party, and share an instant attraction. They spend what ends up being a life-changing night together, and only later discover that he is a football coach at the same university where she is a star volleyball player. Relationships between a coach and a student are obviously completely off limits, so they reluctantly agree to forget about their night and never tell a soul what happened between them. But staying apart proves to be impossible when the connection between them is so intense.

How did we forget? How would I ever not want to drown in his eyes? How did we pretend that his perfect, wicked mouth hadn’t tasted nearly every inch of my body? How did I forget the best night of my life?

It’s a simple set-up for a story, but I was not expecting was the depth of feeling in this story, and OMG, this book wrapped me up in feels and did not let go.

Though they try to keep their distance, Toren and Jennsyn’s lives are very closely intertwined – they’re even neighbors! – and every moment between them is loaded with emotion. The glances, the smiles, the brief touches, it all just sizzles! Their connection is so intense, and there’s this sense of desperate longing between them. I could feel the anguish, the heartache and the sense of hopelessness at their situation, and oh, my heart ached for these two.

“I can’t stop thinking about you.” His voice was no more than a murmur. “You were supposed to fade away.”
“So were you,” I whispered.

The pull becomes impossible to resist, and the tension explodes into a passionate affair that is everything I was hoping for these two. The sex is hot, the feelings are deep, and though they both know the danger, there’s this natural ease and peace between them which is so beautiful.

Jennsyn’s gaze snared me. Everything I was feeling, every frustration and hesitancy and desire, shined in those blue eyes. She wanted this, as much as I wanted this. Fuck. God, I was tired of fighting this. So fucking tired.
“It’s not fair,” she said, barely loud enough to be heard…
I swallowed hard. “No, babe. It’s not fair.”

While they are secretly falling for each other, Jennsyn is dealing with additional issues, trying so hard to break away from her past and figure out who she is and what she wants from her life. Her journey is an emotional one, and it plays out really well alongside the romantic drama.

All forbidden romances face an inevitable breaking point, and I loved watching Toren and Jennsyn deal with the realities of their situation and face up to the drama of it together. Though against the rules, there’s something so right about them, and watching them work through it all honestly and openly was emotional and swoony, and so, so beautiful!

“We’ll figure this out. Your scholarship. My job. None of it matters. The only way you could take everything from me is if you walk away.”

The book ends in a great place, and I finished this one feeling all loved up, and so happy to see these two get the HEA they deserve.

Such a gorgeous read – 5 stars.
