I wanted to conquer the world.

She wanted to gaze at the stars.

It’s been twelve years since I last saw Scottie Rucker. A grim prognosis has upended my life, and no amount of my hard-earned money can fix it. So, after leaving a note on the nightstand, I search for my first love—I search for life.

When I find her in Austin, working at a quaint general store and living in an RV behind it, those twelve years vanish. She’s exactly how I remember her.

Scottie thinks our reunion is a small-world coincidence, and I’m not ready to tell her the truth. After we rekindle our friendship, she convinces me to work part-time at the store while she pursues her budding relationship with Koen, a welder and the grandson of a customer.

Scottie’s ability to live in the moment is exactly what I need. But how do I convince her new boyfriend that I’m not his competition? And what happens if my heart changes its mind?

5 “love is messy” stars

Price has always worked hard, has always thrown his life into his job, and has always strived for perfection. However, in doing so he missed out on so much. Scottie has always been someone who lives life to its fullest. She doesn’t stress out and she doesn’t plan. She didn’t know what she wanted to do in life and she still doesn’t. When they were young, they shared something special but Scottie knew she could never fit in with Price’s perfect life and their summer of love ended there.

“Your dreams were too big, and mine were too small.”

When Scottie and Price meet again after twelve long years, there is still a connection. Scottie is surprised to see him. Price has a secret, one he isn’t planning on sharing with her any time soon and his presence confuses her heart especially since she just met Koen.

I Thought of You is such a different kind of love story. From a love triangle that isn’t a regular love triangle to story lines I didn’t see coming, this was an unusual and captivating read.

There are lots of different kinds of love and the heart feels what the heart feels. Sometimes you can’t help who you love or who you chose. Price, Scottie, and Koen all share amazing connections. This story is not just about Scottie and Price or Scottie and Koen. There is also a unique relationship between Koen and Price.

This story made me feel so many things, some that pulled me in different directions. There were times my heart broke but not in the way I expected. In the beginning, I was hoping for one thing and as the story went on I found myself becoming more and more unsettled. Until I realized that the love I was after wasn’t the only one, and actually, I think the way everything played out was exactly how it was meant to be.

Overall, I loved this book and these characters. It’s a spectacular read that has stayed with me long after I turned the last page

It’s okay that love is messy and complicated.
