He’s a single dad starting over in a new town. She’s a relentless flirt with a penchant for trouble, ten years younger than him, and the babysitter. What could go wrong?
Eve has just graduated from high school, but she doesn’t know what’s next aside from working at the local motel, spying on Kyle, her neighbor, and stealing apples from his orchard. If she doesn’t figure things out soon, she’ll be stuck at home and treated like a child forever.
Kyle is a single dad and the new football coach who needs a babysitter for his adorable son. When he meets Eve, there’s an instant connection because she reminds him of someone—himself. But Eve is the preacher’s daughter, off-limits, and Kyle has already had his heart trampled by his ex.
After earning his son’s affection with her homemade apple sauce and youthful spirit, Eve asks Kyle to teach her things like driving his fishing boat and shooting his hunting bow. Despite his better judgment, he agrees, but swears Eve to secrecy so no one gets the wrong idea about them.
Their playful banter and innocent flirting crosses a line, and Kyle misses the heartbreaking secret Eve’s hidden in plain sight.
When tragedy strikes, can they find their way back to each other?

5 stars!
Wow! Jewel E. Ann has done it again! She has delivered an unputdownable forbidden romance with unforgettable characters and an all-consuming love that deserves its place on my favorites shelf.
We first meet Eve in Sunday Morning as the second daughter of the town pastor and the more rebellious of his three daughters. When Eve’s father’s best friend’s brother, Kyle, moves in next door with his five year old son, Josh, Eve’s mother offers her up as a babysitter. Eve is grounded because she was caught drinking down by the creek but if babysitting gets her out of the house, she figures she can’t say no. It doesn’t hurt that Kyle is the hottest guy in town.
As Eve babysits Josh, Kyle realizes he’ has “met his match.” They are similar in so many ways that it makes it easy for Kyle to relate to her despite being older. And Eve is so fun to be around. She’s confident, speaks her mind, and is happy to be where she is in life. She doesn’t want to do things just because it’s expected of her. She knows what she wants and doesn’t hesitate to go after it. Kyle is a single dad who would do anything for his son. His heart was broken in the past which makes it difficult for him to trust people or his feelings but somehow Eve breaks down Kyle’s walls and finds her way into his heart.
Kyle and Eve have a connection you can feel immediately, and it’s not just the physical attraction between them. Sure there is sizzling sexual tension and smoking hot chemistry, but their banter is hilarious and flirty, and they have a great time together. There may be ten years between them and they may be at different stages in their lives but these two just click.
Eve was so well written as an eighteen year old. Her hopes and dreams, as well as her rebellious nature was believable and relatable. And Kyle may be an adult but he is very much consumed by Eve even when he feels like he shouldn’t be and she’s just as obsessed with him.
I loved being there with them as they fell hard and fast for each other. Their love is everything. They are willing to risk it all and give us a story that is a fantastic take on the forbidden romance. Not only do we have the age gap, but being the daughter of a preacher along with everything that went down with her sister, Sarah, in Sunday Morning, keeps us on the edge of our seats, desperate to see how things work out. The angst is real and I knew there was inevitably going to be heartbreak. I loved that there’s not a ton of drama for the sake of drama, but rather real problems that they needed to overcome before they could truly be together. There is growth for both of them and I love how everything plays out.
I have to add that the way Eve is with Josh is smile-inducing. She cares so much for him and the fact that she is only eighteen but can love a child that’s not even hers the way she does Josh filled my heart. She is exactly what Kyle needed.
Also, the epilogue was perfect. I adore Eve and Kyle, and I loved, loved, loved this book! This series has quickly become a favorite with two 5 stars reads, and I cannot wait for Gabby’s book, A Good Book, because I want her to find her happily-ever-after like her sisters have!!
