The second book in the Alex and Magnolia Trilogy, and after their whirlwind three months together in Australia, our soulmates find themselves on opposite sides of the planet now that Magnolia has returned home to the US. Their love for each other continues to burn bright, even despite the distance, but when third parties get involved and work to break our lovers up, they’ll be tested in ways they never could have imagined.
I admit, I was worried going into this book. That blurb is scary, and the miscommunication trope can be frustrating, but this is not that. There is genuine interference in their relationship, wildly outside of their control, and oh, how my heart ached for them. It’s dramatic and emotional but I couldn’t put the book down, waiting to see how they were going to find their way back to each other.
It comes when Alex gets the opportunity to undergo specialised surgery for his injured ankle in the US, and he seeks out his love, desperate for answers, and OMG, the feels!
“I didn’t let you go.”
My heart fractures all over again. “I didn’t let you go either.”
It was the reunion I was waiting for, full of SO much emotion, and I loved seeing these two together again.
“I’m lost without you.” His voice breaks, rough with emotion. “I love you. I never stopped. Not for a single second.”
A tear slips down my cheek. “I love you too. Every second, every breath, it has always been you.”
They still have some things to work through though, and with outside forces still desperate to keep them apart, they have a lot to deal with as they face what comes next for them.
I really enjoyed this book, though parts of it were frustrating. Firstly, with the depth of their connection, I couldn’t believe how quick they were to believe it was over. And then Magnolia made some really poor choices that I wish she didn’t make. But this book is all about watching them overcome all of that, seeing them come to realise exactly what they mean to each other and what that means for their future, and it sets them up to fight for their HEA in the next book of the series.
A great instalment for an epic love story.
