Release & ARC Review: Holiday Unscripted by Natasha Madison

Holiday Unscripted by Natasha Madison is live!

This is a fantastically fun brother’s-best-friend, enemies-to-lovers, close proximity romance with great chemistry, an irresistible hero, and plenty of family Christmas/wedding shenanigans. I loved it.

Elizabeth
My brother was getting married.
At Christmas no less.
The holiday I hated the most.
Let me list all the reasons why this will be the worst season yet:
One would be my luggage not arriving.
Two would be being told I had to find somewhere else to sleep since my room was occupied by family members.
Oh, and now I am forced to stay with my brother’s best friend.
The man who broke my heart seven years ago.

Nate
My best friend was getting married.
I was happy for him.
Until I had to offer his sister my spare bedroom.
It’d be fine, two weeks and she’d be out of my hair.
But the thing with Elizabeth was that she pushed every single button I have.
She gets under my skin in the best ways.
All we have to do is survive the wedding and the holiday.
Then she’ll be gone yet again.
Unless maybe, just maybe, my wish of having her comes true.

This is a fantastically fun brother’s-best-friend, enemies-to-lovers, close proximity romance with great chemistry, an irresistible hero, and plenty of family Christmas/wedding shenanigans. I loved it.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Zack and Denise from Something So Unscripted. She is a doctor and has been living in Australia for seven years, and she’s flying home to the US for her older brother Joshua’s Christmas wedding. It very quickly becomes the trip from hell, culminating in the ultimate betrayal of her parents having no room for her to stay in their house, and she has to stay with Joshua’s best friend, Nate.

Nate and Elizabeth have known each other since they were kids, and Nate is pretty much a permanent fixture of the family. They crushed on each other wildly and spent one amazing night together which ended with heartbreak after they both mistakenly believed the other had ghosted them the morning after. They’ve never really had a conversation since then because Elizabeth moved to the other side of the world. Now she’s back and they’re having to exist in very close proximity while enduring ten painful days of festive wedding activities and bridal party bonding.

It’s such a great set-up, and lots of fun as we dive on into the mayhem. There is a lot of character crossover from previous books in Natasha’s hockey dynasty, and I loved seeing so many of these characters again. But you can easily read this book as a standalone.

The real entertainment in this book comes from Nate and Elizabeth and their wicked chemistry. Elizabeth is snarky, hot-headed, argumentative and kind of obnoxious, so she’s reacting to everything in the extreme, and meanwhile Nate is a sweet and caring golden retriever with the patience of a saint. They know how to push each other’s buttons, and they bicker and banter constantly, and though there’s anger between them about the past, their attraction is still very much there. The sexual attention soon leads to wild angry sex, and when they finally start to open up to each other, things begin to change.

Their reconnection is a slow burn, but absolutely worth the wait. The emotion is there, and the romance is gorgeous, and I felt it all! But Elizabeth is only in town for a few weeks, and there are unresolved issues that need to be dealt with. It’s a great ride watching them figure it all out, and there is a beautifully happy ending that made me smile.

This is a really fun read. It’s funny and fast paced, steamy and romantic and I really enjoyed it.

4 stars.

I listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Jason Clarke and Samantha Cook, and they are so good! Jason Clarke is always a fave. This is a great book to listen to.

About the Author

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
