Bluebird Gold by Devney Perry is live!
The first book in a new series from Devney Perry, this is a dramatic, small-town, romantic suspense story set in 1983 with a single dad hero, a heroine back in town grieving her father, a murder mystery and a legend of lost gold. It’s a great read with a gorgeous romance, and I loved this book.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Devney Perry comes a gripping romance set in 1983 where a woman’s search for the truth about her father’s death entangles her with the small-town sheriff and a legend of lost Montana gold.
Living in Dalton, Montana was not what I had planned for this winter. But after my father’s sudden death, I uprooted my life to move into his tiny, lakeside cabin and settle his estate. My friends tell me to sell his place and move on. But this winter is my chance to say goodbye. To remember a man who’d loved tales of Montana lore.
Taking a temporary teaching job seemed like the perfect way to keep myself busy on lonely days. Cleaning out the cabin should have been simple. Except the more I learn about my father’s life, the more questions I have about his death.
The last thing I need is a crush on Sheriff Cosi Raynes. Not only is his son my student, but his life is rooted in Montana, while mine is headed . . . anywhere else.
Yet as I uncover a trail of strange clues Dad left behind about a lost legend of Montana gold, staying away from Cosi is not an option. Neither is denying the attraction between us. And my winter of healing becomes a race for answers.
I came to Montana to bury the past. Now I’m falling for the man who might just be my future. And either I’ll solve this mystery. Or the person in Dalton determined to hide the truth will make sure I die trying.

Ilsa has returned to the small Montana town where she was born, and where she used to visit her father for summers as a child. Her now estranged father died suddenly, and she’s back at his remote, lakeside cabin to deal with his estate and come to terms with her loss. But the place is a mess, there is somebody lurking outside her cabin at night, and it’s hinted that her father’s death may not have been an accident.
Local Sheriff (and Tom Selleck lookalike) Cosi is a devoted single dad who is quickly enamoured with the new arrival in town. He’s there to help her in his capacity as Sheriff, and it turns out she’s the new temporary math teacher for his 14 year old son, Spencer. And when it looks like Ilsa is in serious danger, he promptly moves her into his house to protect and care for her while he investigates what’s going on.
It’s a good set-up, and I enjoyed getting to know Ilsa and Cosi. They are great characters, both with a lot going on in their lives, and when they come together, the chemistry is electric. They know that anything between them would be complicated, but their attraction is fierce, and they quickly and effortlessly fall into a relationship that is passionate, intense, real, and so very easy, and I loved seeing them come together.
“When I’m with you, it’s easy. It’s so easy it terrifies me.”
I drop my forehead to hers. “I’m in this with you, Ilsa. I don’t know how to do it any other way.”
The romance is gorgeous, and it develops amidst a whole range of external drama. There are problems at work, drama with family and friends, and Ilsa is uncovering things she never knew about her father’s life and is trying to decipher clues that he left behind for her about a legend of lost gold. All the while, very real danger is closing in on Ilsa, and she and Cosi pull together to protect and support each other through it all.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the small town setting, and being in the 1980s brings a nostalgic vibe that feels really cosy. Cosi and Ilsa are great characters, and their romance is steamy, sweet, and so heartfelt. Cosi’s son, Spencer is a fabulous addition to the story, and the way the three of them come together is absolutely gorgeous. The suspense aspect brings intensity without overwhelming the story, and comes with a surprising twist which I really enjoyed. And to top it all off, there is an epilogue which finishes everything off beautifully and left me smiling.
This is such a good read – 4 stars.
